passable in any regular vehicle this means that a four wheel drive is not necessary Located on the river banks of the Talgua River which flows from the Sierra de Agalta National Park this new park offers more of an ecological nature adventure than an archaeological experience due to the fact that the area where the glowing skulls of the Talgua burial grounds is not open or accessible to the public The trail that leads into the main cave is ½ Km long about 1 3 of a mile and is basically an elevated walkway that is above a crystal clear underground river that runs through the cave It is a good idea to bring good hiking shoes because it can get slippery in there Another good idea is to bring a flashlight Although the caves are well lit you never know when the local power company might have a power break and you could find yourself stranded in the middle of a very dark cave The Talgua caves Eco Archaeological park is open daily from 8 00 a m till 4 00 p m If you do not have a vehicle you can catch a ride with the local bus from Catacamas to Talgua Bus departs at 6 00 a m and at 11 00 a m however the last return trip to Catacamas is at 1 00 p m and therefore you are probably better off taking the morning bus If you miss the 1 00 p m bus you can always hitch a ride with the park manager who lives in Catacamas and is a very friendly and helpful person The park actually has several caves and only the first one is lit and with a trail To enter the others you will find have to follow a trail and I would strongly recommend that you hire one of the local guides Remember that you will need to have a flashlight since there is no lighting in the other caves The Caves of Talgua Olancho offers many different options for adventure Although its true that
