what is the top best online ways or businesses to make money? i am looking to make money online i do not mean the get rich schemes or pyramids, just a way to make money or a business i can join to make money from, like maybe a few hundred or so a week, not that thousands a week fake stuff. and if your going to say something about blogs and all that please tell me how to make money from doing that.

What's the best way to make money online? So far my top choice is online surveys, I haven't tried it out yet though because first I want to know what other options are out there before I spend the $10 to use the services of the website that provides surveys. I'm not even sure if my top choice is legitimate or not, in principle it is since companies need to have surveys to see if their products will go over well with consumers or not, but there can just as easily be scams claiming to provide what the legitimate companies do. Scams are always talking about how easy it is to make money, but they never say what they sell or even give an example of how they make their money. I know there are legitimate online businesses out there, I'm just having trouble finding them, but seeing so many scam websites depresses me. I want to find a way to make money online that actually contributes to society. I would like the job to require skill, I'm good at seeing patterns in things so preferably I'd like to do something online that has to do with finding patterns/trends. I'm also good with coming up with ideas, so any way I can do that online would be preferable.

What do you think of using PR Web to give exposure to a new online baby boutique? I have been told that Network Solutions and some PR agents use PR web as a way to introduce/advertise new online businesses. I have a baby boutique, and I was wondering if this would be an effective way to increase my Search Engine ranking and draw more attention to my site. I do not have alot of money to spend on advertising, and I am told that you get alot of "bang for your buck". They offer 3 different packages, one for $80, which is basic, one for $120, which gets you more, but I am not sure if it is worth it, and then finally one for $200, that is supposed to be the ultimate. You can also pay an extra $10 to have your press release moved to the top of the page when it is published, so people see yours first. What do you think? I am looking for ways to get more exposure to my site? Supposedly PR Web is the best there is?

Good online business ideas? Before i start, please give this question some thought to what it is i want (best answer will be rewarded) I want some good business ideas for making money online with out relying on search engines and affiliates in the future! I am thinking on a large scale and of course over many years and a lot of time and money spent to get this really big. What i mean is: Relying on search engines and affiliate programs at first to grow the business of course. But I don't want to rely on any affiliate programs like AdSense for my income nor the search engines forever, i want to be able to forget about them and have a online business that stands on its own 2 feet. Some might say search engines with PPC, they are good, but this is not what i want to start, the competition is at the top. Does anyone else's dad??? online business meetings? Always do these online businesses that tell you that your going to make money? My dad has, im sure hundreds of these videos, he also has like these "marketing gurus". He watches them all the time and every time I hear bits and pieces it doesn't really sound like they are talking about anything. They just keep saying that if you figure out what people like you'll be rich and stuff like that. Hes constantly searching through emails and he goes through spam mail. I think this is totally strange but one time I walked behind him and watched him log in to his email and the first thing he did was click spam mail and start reading advertisements. How does work at home online work? I sometimes see online advertisements about "work at home". I was wondering how they work. Is that like they want you to pay some money to start the business and ask you to run a similar web site to get start-up fees? Like old pyramid scheme? Only the top of the pyramid can get much money? The site is free and I only have about 800 members so far on my main site, but once I have more (about 5,000 or more), I will place ads on there and make money from the ads just like myspace does. I heard of a kid named Sean Belnick who grosses 24 million dollars a year from selling office chairs online. I know there is some competition in this industry, but not too much. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year? Idea 2. The second online business idea is a website on songwriting. The website would contain a ton of content through articles, how-to's, and reviews on the topic of songwriting since I have a lot of knowledge about the topic. Once I get traffic, I would ad some ads, google adsense, and relevant affiliate products on my site to monetize. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year? Idea 3. This idea is cool, but since there are already sites that do this, it could be challenging. The third idea is a website where users can buy, trade, and sell gift cards for money. I like this idea a lot. The last idea is a website where users who sign up for free can submit their origninal songs (that they must have rights to). Anyone know a great business design? After years of being disappointed in all the online businesses I have come across, I am now looking at starting my own online business. I want to start my own business because I am so sick of the way these other online businesses work. Such as the very popular affiliate programs. In order for people to make a decent amount of money from it they have to be really good at marketing. 90% of affiliates fail miserably making nothing or next to nothing. It can be very difficult to make money online especially for the average person. Not to mention countless scams out there taking advantage of the newbies. I do not want to join a business & promote it for others to join too, knowing damn well that 90% of the people I bring into the business are simply going fail. They will put their time, energy, effort & money into it & are going to fail. Some will succeed but most will fail. That's just the way these businesses are. I do not want to be responsible for bringing people into this sort of thing. I do not want to take someones money & then watch them fail miserably. All the different online business opportunities I've seen have their flaws. Whether it's affiliate programs, cash gifting, paid surveys, paid to click ads, paid to read emails, auto surf sites, any referral programs, or any other thing, they all seem to have one thing in common. That the vast majority of people that join the business are doomed to fail. Or at least make very little money that they certainly cannot live off. I have been searching for a perfect business where it is easy for everyone to make money. All I have seen all over the place are businesses that really only work for the people on the top, while the vast majority fail. Some of these are very competitive businesses too. And none are a win/win situation where everyone is better off, there is always someone worse off. So basically I have been researching, reading, doing some critical thinking, to come up with some sort of revolutionary design where everyone wins & it is generally very easy for everyone to make money. I have been thinking of everything I can to make it easy for someone to make money online but I can't really guarantee people will succeed. How should I register 3 different online stores? How should I register 3 different online businesses? Hi guys, ok, I need some help here. I am wanting to get my online businesses going and registered with the state, etc. The issue I'm having is, I am selling 3 different types of items and I wanted to have 3 different websites designated and sorta named after each item. They all are in the same category. The problem I'm having with my state, Missouri, is no one can give me a definite answer and I have checked the websites on how I should go about this the best and easiest way to first make it all legit, and the best way to register and file taxes. Basically, all money I receive will be going into the same pot, I only wanted 3 different websites and company names to help make it easier for search engines and people seeking particularly that item (know someone who did this years ago and it worked better than having everything all in one site). Another problem, and I should have waited, so no need to drill me on this, I already paid a guy to work on all sites because I wanted them to be up and running by the time I got my official paper work. I didn't know it would be this difficult from some what I thought was good research. I can't tell him to give me my money back since he's already been working on them and I really like the look so far of all 3 sites. I just want to register and do what's right to pay my taxes and collect sales taxes n all that. That's all. I've seen some people say that all they have is an EIN number and registered their DBA names and have had no trouble and are up and running online. I call the state and they are talking about bonds and all these other apps you have to fill out. I was hoping it would all be different and easy as pie (as some have said) for online stores, but apparently it's not. I was thinking to just get a name to represent all 3, but still keep my 3 different websites and just keep track of the monies. One person at the state registration place said that should be fine and another said I may need to register all 3. The fees are killer too, on top of paying for the bonds. Has anyone done this? Do you think I would have a problem keep all 3 websites and just reporting the money under the one name that represents them all as long as I am collecting the tax and paying my quarterly fees? I'm sure I'm making this hard on myself. Desperate. Know Free online business opportunities? I feel like I will never be financially stable. I only make about 1000 after taxes, and I have looked for other jobs but I would make even less. I filled out a web form on people interested in small home business s..i got 10 calls from high-end executives, all very excited like there was a big secret going on..apparently the secret was a lot of money..they said you can make 2-3 thousand per month. I have lost my direction in life:( Does anyone have any advice/suggestions? I am 28 years old and feel as though I have accomplished nothing in my life. My life has been such a waste thus far. I am so lost and have lost my motivation and determination as a result. I received my bachelors(4 year degree) at age 22. I have been unable to get a job in my field(Criminal Justice).So after graduation I was forced to move back home with my parents. The only excuse that I get is that I don't have enough experience or some other lame excuse.But how do you get experience if no one will hire you.I truly believe that if you don't have contacts,know somebody or have the right color skin you are pretty much out of luck.Because most people seem to only hire friends,someone connected to their friends,or have their skin color regardless of experience.Its called a network, something I don't have. So I decided to start substitute teaching and I did so for about 5 years.In doing so I began thinking about a career change.I thought about becoming a teacher. So I went and got my certification to teach and was told by the people at the board of education that I could teach for 4 to 5 years with a certificate at the end of 5 years I must have obtain a masters of education to continue teaching. So I began applying for teaching jobs and paraprofessional(teacher assistant jobs) which requires no education at all ,so I figured I have 5 years of "experience" teaching so I shouldn't have a problem. But guess what I can't even get a phone call for an interview.So after five years of subbing the stress was too great(THE KIDS THESE THESE DAYS ARE AWFUL AND HAVE NO RESPECT)and the principals do nothing about it, the just send them back to class. What is the best & cheapest mode of advertising my embroidery digitizing business.? I run an embroidery digitizing business and would like to increase my customer base, I have already tried online advertising with many providers, such as Google Adwords, Yahoo and the likes. Unfortunately nothing seems to work - I have done my own Search Engine Optimization - and even though my site is listed in the top 10 of Yahoo organic search, I have not been receiving any significant enquiries. I also tried my hands on direct marketing, by mailing postcards - that doesn't seem to work either and I might I add - its very expensive. Besides, I reckon that most of the businesses involved in retail embroidery are still not using internet as a means of communication, sales or outsourcing. Worked with Chineze, Czech, Turkish and Ukrainean partners. Also in school, double majoring at local uni in Law and Management, 2nd year. VERY LITTLE TIME at hand. Worked in commerce all my life, literally grew up around an office and shop. Access, Word, Powerpoint, Excel for breakfast, computer literate xp win 7 vista etc. Limited html skills. Designed databases for work to improve productivity, built a company website, client lists, organized a call center... folks can't pay me more, I could make more money moving to a different city but I can't. What is a great 2 yr (associate degree) that makes good money, is in need, and isnt too physically demanding? I want to own my own business after all, but can I do that with an associate degree? If so, my colleges nearby dont offer an associate in business (would it be best to get business management...or is there some kind of general business degree?) . I would have to do classes online and someone said that all (esp university of "state") colleges offer online courses...is that true? Can you legally drop out at 17 as a I.E.P Special Needs Student in California? My school is the biggest joke in the world. I've had to put up with some much crap there it's insane. When I started the first grade that said I had a learning disability and put me in special education with a bunch of people that have serious issues. They call it an I.E.P I'm not an I.E.P student if I can Build computers talk to people and understand our economy and basic business and make some money online as well. Here is a list of some of the crap I've had to go through. 1. I had to serve a detention and they made me work with bleach and i had burns on my shirt in the bathroom. Principle lies and says that they have no such chemical on campus until my dad called in the health dept and then he received a don't sue us we want the shirt call on the phone. 2. Somebody pulled a chair underneath me and the teacher didn't do crap. 3. A book thrown at me and scissors thrown across the room one again teacher didn't do anything 4. They accused me of sexual harassment form one complaint who is in the same class lives in a group home and admits to having a stocking record. Even tho she is sexually provoking people with loud conduct. Not one week before my indent somebody touched her. I was suspended form her mouth with NO PROOF! 5. FAILING to provide me the correct classes. Way to easy or way to hard. Going form like basic math to advanced algebra. My case manager goes on saying I have training to do and for TWO weeks I was unable to talk to him about my classes 6. My school counselor tells me to get out of her office basically becuase she is to busy at the moment and shows me a stack of papers. 7. Lies and more. Telling me I wont be able to pass the high school exit exam and that I should move to another school so I can take advantage of the waver that is in effect for this year and it may not be in effect for next year! CA dept of education law says that it's exempt until the school implements a alternative CHASE! At the moment I'm not learning anything. The only classes I learn anything in are my Graphic design class and Art class The math I get is a joke. I get tough basic Division fractions and Multiplication. wow 32x33 My English, Math, and Earth Science is done on a joke program called Odyssey which is a joke. The pages don't even render correctly half of the time. They are trying to teach me with a online credit recovery program. Also there is a both sides of the fence there. The teacher cases about quantity The more the better basically of the work but the teacher assistant that runs the Odyssey program cares about the Quality of the work. And admits he failed his last test when asked by a student. On top of that when it comes to book work he says it's not required for you to read. All I want to do is write the questions down and answer them. You don't need to read the chapter. Just find the answers to the question in the chapter. So this is a Jokery. I'm getting credits but not learning anything I don't want a exemption diploma which I'm going to get. I'd rather take a GED and know stuff! becuase I'm going to have to redo all of it again. OK so I went to this business meeting yesterday about Amway and they told me that it's not an illegal pyramid scheme and that I'd be able to make passive recurring income (basically money without labour). I'd have to recruit people into my "team", and the more people i have under me the more I'll earn. So they said they wouldn't pester me with their product advertising etc. So how do these guys (at the top), and me actually make money? Anybody know of a site to buy cigarettes online? I have a friend who smokes and he can't afford the store prices. I remember when my Mom used to order her cigs online at a much better cost, even taking into consideration the shipping. The site Mom used is no longer in business and I've done some searches and the sites seem not legit in one way or another. The top Google search result - I started clicking on cigarette brands and every single one was 'sold out'. And another one was done in hardly intelligible English. I have failed miserably at starting up my own painting business (homes and so forth) Our finances are totally shot, the bills do not stop and garnishments have already begun, even though there is no money in the bank. On top of those bills the bank adds their overdraft and garnishment fees that I have to pay on top of the debts I already have. I am so frustrated with the online deals for government grants or surveys. They all tell you it is free to get in, yet every stinking time you go to sign up they ask for some $ either for shipping & handling or join an affiliate program where you have to buy something else from some other company. Well, the problem is, we do not have any $ in which to start from. The few survey programs I started over a year ago have never paid me one single penny so I stray away from those. I have paid for a grant thing once before just to be bombarded a month and a half later with extra charges from other companies that were associated with the initial sign up. I do not remember granting access to my bank accounts to these companies. Although it was there in the fine print. Anyhow, as I mumble on..... does anyone know af anything I can get into to?

Who is liable for leaks/plumbing issues in rental situations for businesses if the issue is known and unfixed? Hey guys, I need a little help here on how to handle a situation. My landlord (basically a slum lord in the St Louis area) rented me a huge storefront that had sat empty for years. There are apartments above the storefront, and I use the storefront for storage and some work space. The building is more than 100 years old itself, so it needs extensive repair. When I moved in, I was told by the maintainance man as well as the property manager at the time that there was leaks in the building but that they were fixed and it was fine now. I could see the signs of the leaks down the wall in the back of the store, and I had to do extensive cleaning on the storefront before I could move in. I sell books online, and we are exclusively online, we have no customers that ever come to our storefront/warehouse/storage area. Yesterday, I came to work and found that a large amount of my stock had been damaged by a leaking pipe. This is the fourth pipe that has had issues since I moved in two years ago, but until now my inventory hadn't been affected. The landlord is well aware of the situation, and has been told by two different plumbers that this old building needs new plumbing immediately, and that they could go at any time, but he refuses to fix it. My financial situation has kept me here, I can't afford to move my stock out because I'm getting the place very cheap, about half of what a similarly sized building would cost me in the same area (since nobody else would rent it!), and I can't afford renter's or small business insurance either due to the building itself and the type of business I own. My question is this: who's liable for the damage to my inventory in this situation if the pipes burst and the place is flooded? I've been told two different stories by two different people, the original maintainance man told me that the landlord was responsible because he knows of the situation and has been advised multiple times to get it fixed as well as lying to me upon me moving in and telling me there was no further problems with the plumbing, but another person (a property manager) told me that he wasn't and it would be my responsibility to get renter's insurance, which was going to cost me a huge amount of money according to a couple of quotes that I received. My father is undergoing cancer treatment in Houston for a rare form of cancer, and that's eating up all of my free money, driving back and forth between St Louis and Houston, and it's just been hell dealing with this worry of my business and his health as well as taking care of my wife and son on top of it. could someone please help. I need some advice to save our family business of over 20 years.? We have been in the counter top business for over 20 years. Where can I find scholarships online? Right now, my mother is single (divorced) and on Medical Disability. Because she is on MD, we get even less money a month then an average working parent. My father can't pay for child support because he's helping a daughter from a previous marriage (before my mom) pay to go to college. I'm not able to work because of all the work I'm getting in my AP class. Since it's a college class, I have lots, and that means hours of studying. Even though I just started this last monday, I have my first quiz this monday (the day after tomorrow) over the first 20 pages of the textbook, which are words I don't even know, but I'm trying my hardest. **If I keep taking AP classes (which I plan to for college credit) I won't have time to even work for college. I'm only a freshman, but due to our financial position it's quite critical for me to start earning money now and keep it in a savings account. ADVICE PLEASE! My Husband is self-employed and hasn't made any money in 3 years!? My husband and I have been married almost 3 years now. I love him with all my heart, he is wonderful and kind. The problem is he is in the real estate industry (you all know how bad that is) and hasn't made any money since we've been married. He wasn't selling any houses so he decided to get certified in property management - spent $1000 dollars on these courses, licensing, not to mention he keeps his real estate license active so there's all those dues, too. His income is determined by the number of rentals he has, and he charges 10 percent of the rent to manage the properties, for instance if the rental is $1000 a month, he makes $100 off that one property. Then the broker takes 50% off the top, which means he makes $50. Take his gas, office supplies, signs, business cards, and all the other miscellaneous expenses and that leaves him with practically nothing. We did our taxes for 2009 and literally he would have made more money working at Micky D's for minimum wage. I have suggested this to him several times and he will not hear of it. He seems to think that given enough time his time is better spent looking for new properties to rent. But I ask him how much time a day does he do that and he doesn't! He is so busy taking and returning phone calls, showing property, and taking care of all the financial stuff he claims he doesn't have time. I have offered to help him in any way I can - stuff envelopes, make phone calls, whatever, but when he comes home all he wants to do is play this stupid online game. Popular animals to start of a reptilian/amphibian online store? Ok, here is the situation. I have 2 passions, one being paleontology, which if i want to make a decent living with, will require many years of college. Also, I love working with reptiles and amphibians. I'm definitely going to go to college for a bachelors in biology, then a masters-PhD in paleontology, since I love the subject, but I still would like to open up a reptilian/amphibian store, or an "exotic store" if you'd like to call it that. Now, I don't have the money or the time for a full blown store. By the way, I have taken 4 business classes in high school, (typing, advanced typing, accounting, etc.) and I'm going to take marketing and college accounting senior year if that makes a difference. So, I want to start with an online store, and maybe in the far (far as in 10-20 years from now) open up a full blown store. But I'm going to have to start small. I have been successful with breeding and selling tree frogs online over the last summer. I have an entire normal sized room that I will be able to prepare to dedicate to this, and once I expand I will either buy a small ware house or something (but those are questions to focus on in the future). Why does my family think "work from home" means I play online all day? I work from home as a virtual assistant. I am certified, licensed & bring in enough money to cover half the bills. Under what circumstances, if any, are businesses responsible for paying your overdraw fees? Here's my specific problem: A couple weeks ago I paid online for 1-year membership to USFA (United States Fencing Association). When I went to a tournament the next day or so I had to fill out a membership form again because I had not yet received my official membership card in the mail. I was told to write duplicate on the form. I forgot to. Now, I am a poor college student, so I don't have a lot of money in my checking. The USFA ended up charging me twice for membership fees, which is how I ended up receiving an overdraw fee on top of those. Clearly there is a small case of negligence on my part, however, can I legitimately argue that they too are guilty of negligence? When they are adding people to registration, shouldn't they notice that someone from the save division, the same club, and the same name, with the same credit card number, is already registered? Another way of looking at it: Am I obliged to write duplicate on the membership form in order to guarantee that USFA has an obligation to pay for my overdraw fee? I do know these two sites can tell you if companies are scams or not, and I wanted to invest some money or do something wise on the internet with some kind of business so I can depend on that money just in case I am not getting money at my regular job, and I do not know how to use the BBB or INC 500 sites to check out a company to see if they are affiliated with these companies and others to see if they are a joke or not. For example when i get to the inc 500's home page, I see all these tabs across the top, but don't see where you can look in to an online business/job to see if they are legit. And then I think when I go to the BBB they just have where you click on check on a business, and then once it gets you to that page, it asks for the business' name, city, state, zip. relationship help...? My problem: I am engaged, living with my fiancee'. We've lived together now since January 2008. Since we moved in, I've held 2 jobs and lost both of them. You see,...ideally, I don't want to be working for anyone but me. He said he would need my account number and routing number but I told him I'm not comfortable giving that out to him. Moronic Mechanic, Do I have a Case? 7 Months ago, I had Payed a Man to fix My car. He is a back yard mechanic who owns many businesses. The Head gaskets had cracked in my vehicle and he said he would put in a new engine a few weeks later he says his vehicle to haul it was broken down, so he didn't have the engine. we had given him until my graduation in Late May to fix it, which was well over two months,. When that date comes around he says he hasn't even started because he couldn't get the engine because his friend was "sick". We are angry but being that he is a nice guy we tell him get it done ASAP. He finally gets our engine, which didn't fit because it wasn't the right one. so he says he is goign to rebuild our old one and repair it. and Mind you this was in july...... So anyways he cashes our check before telling us this and doesn't pick up his phone for weeks and then tells us that he was waiting for a check to get the heads for the engine. Which we never agreed to pay him for being that he already had the money for the New engine we never got. So we demand that he finish it quickly, around august I am getting completely fed up, and I tell him that he has two weeks or im taking him to court. So he says "i will have it done by next week. Next week comes around and he never called. we finally got a hold of him and he said "my son got in a accident and we don't know if he is goign to make it. SO right then and there I feel bad so I tell him get it done when you can. What can I do, I feel so depressed and discouraged? My husband always makes me feel guilty for not having a job, even though I have applied everywhere, two or three times at each location, in person and online, and at businesses with various locations. He's in the military so he gets a good amount of money for living expenses, and for me as I am considered a dependent. We could easily live with just his income if we cut out some of the frivolous expenses we have, but saving money would be hard and we need to since we are moving to a new city next year and will be going to school. The pick 5 of the day was, "5 Things You Want Right Now!" My answers were sex, chocolate, money, my birthday and a car. When my boyfriend looked at my page, he got upset that I said sex as one of my answers. He said the whole world doesn't need to know that we're not having sex and it's not fair for me to post his personal business online. Is getting into Stanford for grad school through SCPD HCP easier than the traditional route? Hi, I work at a top software company in silicon valley, and have the opportunity to get a masters via their SCPD / HCP program. My GPA from undergrad was like a 3.0 barely, and my GRE score will be in the 60th %tile. How can this be legal? (about Identity theft)? Ok so someone stole my identity almost 2 years ago. I put a fraud alert on my credit which requires that I get a phone call to authorize any credit inquiries and have not had any issues since resolving all of the issues last year. Now, I get a phone call 2 days ago telling me that I owe $1000 for a Payday loan taken out in my name. They were really rude to me and obviously think I am a scammer when really I have once again been scammed. Anyways, here are the reasons I am confused as to how this could happen: *Payday loan taken out over a website, not in person *They listed my address in Florida *They used a bank account which deposit was made to was not in my name *The bank account they used is in Michigan *The bank account contact info and home address as well as my name do not match *They did not check my credit for a payday loan *They are threatening to report it on my credit report in 5 business days if I haven't overnight mailed a police report to them So how can I be pushed into a corner over this?! I am furious. I've already filed a report with the FTC, made a police report, and I've done everything I've been told to do. But these people are demanding that I buy a copy of my police report to send to them (It costs $15 at my local police station) and then pay to have it overnighted. They racked up a decent amount of damage 2 years ago, then last year I found out they "piggybacked" to use my credit by taking out a new home cable-internet-phone service in my name. It slipped though the cracks because I already had that service provider. So they didn't have to run my credit that time either. And now they are taking out Payday loans in my name which don't require a credit check. So how will this ever end? They could do this to me forever it seems like :( And I am trying to get a job at a bank but I would be denied based on poor credit over this. It's really draining me of energy and I just feel like giving up :( What should I do? P.S. The logical thing to do would be to ask the police for help, right? Should I finish college or quit school and work on my business? 2 Years ago i started an online company which became one of the top websites in that industry within a matter of months. Since then i have been going to school full time and I almost have my AA in business administration. I have put the business on the side and have been working on school to finish my degree, now that i almost have the AA, im not sure if i should transfer or should i keep working on my business. If i were to work on the business full time i could easily turn it into a multimillion dollar business. Everyone that i talk to says i should get the 4 year degree. Even with taking 1-2 classes a quarter its hard to work on the business at the same time. I never planned on using the 4 year degree to get a job anyway, all i was going to use it for was to get the knowledge because ive already helped start a business which became successful when i was 18 and i worked there for 4 years. I feel like if i finish the degree i could be wasting my time and losing alot of money. I was definately going to finish the AA. I was just wondering if i should try and transfer. I have to take extra classes to transfer. If i were to finish with the AA and then quit school, its kinda hard to go back later on. People ive talked to who have done that have had a hard time going back to school 5 years later. Im sure it can be done, but it would end up being harder later on. Advice needed! :)? I recently started an online graduate course. This is an intro course in a business program that I thought I would really enjoy. It has left me spending endless nights studying things that I don't understand. I am working 40 hours on top of this which wouldn't be a problem if I felt that I was capable of grasping the concepts and accomplishing something. I am not a quitter but I am at a point that I am not sure if this class will be beneficial. Should I stick it out or withdraw? I may lose money, but that's not the issue here for me.

Best place to keep short term cash/operating capital? Ok, is there really any reason I can't keep my personal expenses/small business expenses in a bond fund or something like that for 6 months to 1 year projected expenses. For a few years now I've been keeping it in an online money market, which had the best rates in the country back when I started. Now they're not at all near the top. I do NOT want to just keep hopping from bank to bank, but I do want the overall best deal I can get. I understand that if I put cash into a bond fund, then over the years the average rate of return would strongly outpace any money market or money market fund. I also understand that there is a chance that the bond fund could lose a small amount over a 6 month period, but this wouldn't exactly be the crisis of a lifetime. I can't be that risk averse or I'll never take the money out from under my mattress. It's not like all is going to fall apart if things don't work out down to the last penny. Assuming there are no transaction fees for once a month transfers to my checking account, and that I can stomach a minor dip every once in a while, then why not just skip the moneymarket accounts/funds altogether and go with something that gives me a little more without hopping around? What does It mean when A bank files a claim? My husband Ordered me a mothers day ring online. They charged his account twice. We only received one ring, so I called the place that he ordered the ring from today and they said that they only had recored of charging us once. But it clearly said on our account that it was taken out twice. So I called the bank and they said that they were filing a claim and we should be getting our money back in the next few days. What does this mean for that business does that look bad on their part. Also to top it off I took the ring off cause it was getting all scratched up already. So we are returning the ring.

Does anyone have any tips on how to save a failing business? The ship is sinking. I've been open for almost 4 months now (an online apparel store). This is our biggest season, a time when we are supposed to make the most sales, and we're not selling. I've received a total of two sales since I opened back in October. I don't think it's our image. The site is extremely secure, the layout is beautiful, we offer very affordable, top notch products. I've put alot of work and money into developing our online brand. It's just not working. I've rented email lists and sent out email blasts with top notch creative. My click through rates are less than 1%. My open rates are less than 10% and I have no conversions. I've dropped my prices significantly (to the point where I would make a minimal profit off my product). Everything is on sale right now and I've always offered low cost and free shipping...No response. I'm using pages on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and other social networking sites to advertise. I blog--well I might ad. I even created a contest with a cash prize to try to get more sign ups on my mailing list. I use google ad words, and I get clicks, but almost none of them result in sales. The only two sales I've made originated from organic google searches. I cut my overhead expenditures, and have increased my online advertising budget. Again, none of it is working. I was recently laid off from my day job, so I can't keep hemorrhaging money like this. Please help me save my business. What do I do now?

His skills at persuasion are limited to shouting at the milling crowd: 'Stand back! Stand back! My dog will bite!' Last week that phrase had become the defining motto and operating credo for the military and foreign policy of the Bush administration. Already President George W. Bush has put Iran, Iraq and North Korea on notice as terrorist-sponsoring nations at the centre of an international 'axis of evil', despite the CIA's recent evidence that none of them was in the business of threatening the United States at present. Even this is not enough for General Richard Myers, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. They want the US defence budget to increase at an even faster rate. What all this means is clear. Troubled by the 11 September attacks and buoyed by the ease of the war against Afghanistan, Bush's message to the 'evil doers' of the world is that he has a dog; that it is very big, getting bigger, and certainly it will bite. The puzzle about the latest rise in defence spending is that America at the beginning of the 21st century is already not so much a superpower as a behemoth on the world stage. Economically dominant, it enjoys military and cultural power unrivalled since the days of the Roman emperors, as the American author Robert D. Kaplan reminds us in his new book, Warrior Politics. Typically, it has been left to the French, traditionally suspicious of US global hegemony, to find the best words to describe it. Gigantisme militaire they call it, in a phrase that describes both the scale of America's ambitions and also a pathological condition: an organism grown so large it is sick. The question the rest of the world is asking itself is: Who is the enemy America is arming itself so against? And why? 'Ostensibly,' says one European diplomat, 'this is about security. But quite how a massive increase in defence spending is supposed to prevent another terrorist attack remains unclear. Instead this seems to be about repairing the bruised American psyche after 11 September. America's powerlessness in the face of this attack requires big gestures and reassurances, even if they are counter-productive and meaningless.' Indeed, some analysts say, if it is security that America seeks it is better sought in dialogue with potentially threatening states, rather than in reinforcing the idea already held by many anti-US groups that it is an evil empire bent on world domination. Cynics have identified more overtly self-serving strands in the Republican obsession with America's defence. The 'war' rhetoric, as some US liberal commentators have pointed out, serves a purely domestic Republican agenda in the post-11 September mood of national paranoia: to win Bush a second presidential term and, in the shorter term, regain Congress. The reality - even before the latest proposed increases in military spending - is that America could beat the rest of the world at war with one hand tied behind its back. The requirement that US armed forces be able to fight two fully fledged wars with two separate adversaries simultaneously may recently have been dropped, but only because it would be hard pushed to find two such equal foes to fight. A single US nuclear-powered carrier group - which forms around the USS Enterprise, for example, with a flight deck almost a mile in length and a superstructure 20 storeys high - concentrates more military power in one naval group than most states can manage with all their armed forces. America has seven of these battle groups. It is not just the scale and power of these weapons systems. The reach of US arms, too, is awesome. When the USS Kitty Hawk was sent with its accompanying warships from Yokohama to the Gulf for the war against Afghanistan, it covered 6,000 miles in just 12 days to be transformed into a vast floating forward attack station for thousands of US special forces. Its B-52 bombers can fly and refuel across the world armed with cruise missiles that can be fired hundreds of miles away from hostile skies, the missiles themselves directed to their targets by satellites in orbit. And America's supremacy in bombs, planes, satellites, tanks and real-time intelligence have made the prospect of US casualties remote, except in the event of cock-up or disaster. And, significantly, as the world's only economic hyper-power, it can afford this level of militarisation. But against all this even the manufacturers of America's arms - like the aviation giant Lockheed-Martin - have been struggling for a decade or so to define the threat its top-shelf jets will be battling in the skies, being forced in one memorable presentation to show the European Eurofighter as a potential adversary. So why the need for more and better military power? Even military analysts are baffled. 'The rise in US military spending,' says Dan Plesch, senior research fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, 'ought to be compared to the decision in the First World War to order up more cavalry when the first wave had been mown down by machine-guns. 'The US has no competitor in high-tech military equipment. And what it is spending its money on is mostly irrelevant against the knives used to carry out 11 September. The bombing of Afghanistan has created the illusion of victory.' Professor Paul Kennedy at Yale University calculates that the US now spends more each year than the next nine largest national defence budgets combined. Indeed America is responsible for about 40 per cent of the world's military spending. The new defence expenditure will be paid for by a freshly dug deficit and cuts to every other federal spending programme - including social security, Medicare and urban renewal - apart from tax breaks loaded heavily in favour of the upper-income brackets. Amid all this, military might has emerged as the central tenet of America's new power, the defining feature of the Bush administration. Already it is causing alarm, even among America's closest allies in Nato, where Lord Robertson, the usually unflappable secretary-general, has been moved to warn some members that unless the declining European defence expenditure is reversed then Europe - and the Europeans in Nato - are in danger of becoming military pygmies. It is not a prospect likely to worry the military hawks in the Bush administration, who favour unilateralism over alliance. Indeed the Nato alliance, built to counter the rival superpower conflict of the Cold War, is already almost redundant, some diplomats claim. 'Will the Americans ever fight a war through Nato again?' asks Carl Bildt, former Swedish Prime Minister. 'It's doubtful. The United States reserves the right to itself to wage war, and dumps on others the messy, expensive business of nation-building and peace keeping'. And the Afghan war has not only put the US in sole command of the world, but fundamentally reshaped the architecture of international alliances. Central Asia is splattered with new American fortresses; the Pacific and Indian oceans are patrolled by aircraft carriers and accompanying fleets of awesome size.

Am I doing the right thing? I work for my parents, and have been on here quite a bit talking about some of the rough times I've had in this experience. In fact, we've been to family counseling for the past few months, and there have been some crazy bouts from my younger brother toward me, and lots of family drama. In summary, my family has always fed off of drama with all family members close and afar, and has not always made the most responsible choices in business, and in my opinion, raising a family. I have strived to move away from this mentality for a long time now. Since I was young, as the oldest, a lot of responsibility over the years has been placed on me, and at 26 years old after college and almost graduate school bound, I am still helping my family run their business. Trouble has been over years they have made some irresponsible choices like putting their 17 year old son to look after their 10 employees and supervisor after I was working for 2-3 months so they could go on vacation, not to mention loads of financial rollercoasters over the years with debt, IRS worries, and lavish vacations, cars, and spending sprees all in between. Despite the currently bad economy, all in all things are going pretty well right now though, who knows what the future holds. I hope they have learned from the past of liquidating their assets. The situation at hand right now has been at hand for the past year and a half. Right now I am managing projects re-wiring apartment complexes for the cable company, since they have a contract to do so. Before I took on the second or third project over a year ago, my father explained to me that he would pay me 10-15% of the invoice profit as an incentive to make the projects profitable for him. Now I have been mentioning this money over the course of the past year, during and after every project and every time I bring it up he has been pushing the subject away by just saying, yeah I have to look into it, or coming up with some reason to procrastinate it, or some reason he shouldn't have to pay it. For example, because I go to gradute school part-time, his reasoning was that I am payed salary 40 hours per week even if I don't work 40. This is true, so I told him that if he wishes, and I work 37 hours, well take the 3 hours off the top. So then he says, oh, what about all the other expenses you don't take into account? I have made detailed outlines of project expenses versus invoice, and in summary, our projects have profited over 70,000 during the past year. Not to mention the one I am currently one should profit from around 90-100k. Now after blowing it off again, I confronted him and said, jeez, dad are we gonna talk about this or what? So recently he has decided that the reason he doesn't want to pay is because my mother is paying for my graduate school. Now she told me over ago when I started taking classes online part-time that she would pay for my classes as long as I got an A on the previous one. Which I have been doing. I had no idea there was supposed to be a correlation to the money I would get from the project. Now he is trying to say that because they pay that, that he doesn't want to pay the project profit incentive. Why didn't he tell me that in the first place? So after avoiding the subject like the plauge and always feeling guilty for bringing it up, and also for a myriad of other reasons that he is just plain lousy to work for I have finally decided to tell him that this is my last project I can take on until we work something out regarding this matter. Basically I am telling him I will finish this project, but no more unless you pay me what you owe me. He is so insulted by this and has been screaming and cursing (on the phone from his winter house in florida). My concern is, I still kinda feel guilty asking for the money they told me they would pay me, but, I thought I would be making this money before I took the work on in the first place! What the hell? Anyone else ever in a situation like this?

Observer Worldview Sunday February 10, 2002 The Observer There is a United States special forces dog-handler who meets journalists, diplomats and aid workers off the UN flight to Kabul. His job is to search luggage and ensure the security of US troops in Afghanistan. He is short, gingery and aggressive. His skills at persuasion are limited to shouting at the milling crowd: 'Stand back! Stand back! My dog will bite!' Last week that phrase had become the defining motto and operating credo for the military and foreign policy of the Bush administration. Already President George W. Bush has put Iran, Iraq and North Korea on notice as terrorist-sponsoring nations at the centre of an international 'axis of evil', despite the CIA's recent evidence that none of them was in the business of threatening the United States at present. Last Monday, to back that explicit threat, he announced an increase in US military spending of 15 per cent, the biggest in 20 years, more than double the military spending in all of the European Union. The rise will be $36 billion (£26.5bn) this year, $48 billion next year and $120 billion over the next five years, rising to a staggering two trillion over the next five years. Even this is not enough for General Richard Myers, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. They want the US defence budget to increase at an even faster rate. What all this means is clear. Troubled by the 11 September attacks and buoyed by the ease of the war against Afghanistan, Bush's message to the 'evil doers' of the world is that he has a dog; that it is very big, getting bigger, and certainly it will bite. The puzzle about the latest rise in defence spending is that America at the beginning of the 21st century is already not so much a superpower as a behemoth on the world stage. Economically dominant, it enjoys military and cultural power unrivalled since the days of the Roman emperors, as the American author Robert D. Kaplan reminds us in his new book, Warrior Politics. Typically, it has been left to the French, traditionally suspicious of US global hegemony, to find the best words to describe it. Gigantisme militaire they call it, in a phrase that describes both the scale of America's ambitions and also a pathological condition: an organism grown so large it is sick. The question the rest of the world is asking itself is: Who is the enemy America is arming itself so against? And why? 'Ostensibly,' says one European diplomat, 'this is about security. But quite how a massive increase in defence spending is supposed to prevent another terrorist attack remains unclear. Instead this seems to be about repairing the bruised American psyche after 11 September. America's powerlessness in the face of this attack requires big gestures and reassurances, even if they are counter-productive and meaningless.' Indeed, some analysts say, if it is security that America seeks it is better sought in dialogue with potentially threatening states, rather than in reinforcing the idea already held by many anti-US groups that it is an evil empire bent on world domination. Cynics have identified more overtly self-serving strands in the Republican obsession with America's defence. The 'war' rhetoric, as some US liberal commentators have pointed out, serves a purely domestic Republican agenda in the post-11 September mood of national paranoia: to win Bush a second presidential term and, in the shorter term, regain Congress. The reality - even before the latest proposed increases in military spending - is that America could beat the rest of the world at war with one hand tied behind its back. The requirement that US armed forces be able to fight two fully fledged wars with two separate adversaries simultaneously may recently have been dropped, but only because it would be hard pushed to find two such equal foes to fight. A single US nuclear-powered carrier group - which forms around the USS Enterprise, for example, with a flight deck almost a mile in length and a superstructure 20 storeys high - concentrates more military power in one naval group than most states can manage with all their armed forces. America has seven of these battle groups. It is not just the scale and power of these weapons systems. The reach of US arms, too, is awesome. When the USS Kitty Hawk was sent with its accompanying warships from Yokohama to the Gulf for the war against Afghanistan, it covered 6,000 miles in just 12 days to be transformed into a vast floating forward attack station for thousands of US special forces. Its B-52 bombers can fly and refuel across the world armed with cruise missiles that can be fired hundreds of miles away from hostile skies, the missiles themselves directed to their targets by satellites in orbit. And America's supremacy in bombs, planes, satellites, tanks and real-time intelligence have made the prospect of US casualties remote, except in the event of cock-up or disaster. And, significantly, as the world's only economic hyper-power, it can afford this level of militarisation. But against all this even the manufacturers of America's arms - like the aviation giant Lockheed-Martin - have been struggling for a decade or so to define the threat its top-shelf jets will be battling in the skies, being forced in one memorable presentation to show the European Eurofighter as a potential adversary. So why the need for more and better military power? Even military analysts are baffled. 'The rise in US military spending,' says Dan Plesch, senior research fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, 'ought to be compared to the decision in the First World War to order up more cavalry when the first wave had been mown down by machine-guns. 'The US has no competitor in high-tech military equipment. And what it is spending its money on is mostly irrelevant against the knives used to carry out 11 September. The bombing of Afghanistan has created the illusion of victory.' Professor Paul Kennedy at Yale University calculates that the US now spends more each year than the next nine largest national defence budgets combined. Indeed America is responsible for about 40 per cent of the world's military spending.
