If applying to a UK university for an academic subject, how do you give an idea of relevant books you've read?
I want to do maths. There are lots of books I plan to read/textbooks I plan to work through before my application later this year. I'm doing this largely for my own enjoyment, but obviously it would be nice to put it somewhere in my application. So if I were to read/ work through lots of books, would there be anywhere on my application that I could give an idea of this? Is there a "list your books" type section? Or would I just have to give an idea of what I'd read in my personal statement part?

- Well first of all the best of luck with your application. My daughter started a maths degree this year at UCL and she has loved her first year. I seem to remember that she mentioned briefly in the statement that she was reading through the suggested reading list of the course she wanted to read. However when she went for her interview the interviewer did not ask her anything about these books. INstead he set her several problems and after a short time said to her well you are clearly a mathematician i will be offering you a place and thats was the end of her interview. Of course every uni is different, all you can do is your best and put into your statement that which you feel is most important. Good luck
- I'm a student just coming out of the other side of a Maths degree. Personally I didn't read any books before starting my course, and nobody really expects you to have. You can mention it in your personal statement, there's no other section. What looks good for applications is if you took an extra ASlevel (or even Alevel) in Further Maths, if you're in lower sixth currently see if you can take it. It's not needed but lets you get a nice headstart and makes the course less pressure. My other bit of advice is to try to take a 'Professional Training Year' during your degree, really ups your job chances latter.
