What are some problems in the world that need to be fixed or solved?

I want a science project that I can create a device or something to solve an issue in the world, maybe something to do with military or tsunami's or avalanche's. I want the level of difficulty to be above 8th or 9th grade. So a list on problems or a website is very helpful. I don't want it to be like, What type of bubblegum... etc.. Just a list of any random things like, Aircraft designs- Stronger Bridge's to hold up against large tsunami's and earthquakes. Anything like that is great. Thanks!

3. Water shortages in Nevada. Fuel prices. Energy shortages are looming in the near future. Anything dealing with our infrastructure would be a good project
