Who cares? Frankly, people who spend all their effort getting wrapped around these types of concerns need to get a life. I like Elton John's music, particularly his earlier stuff. Beyond that what list he is or isn't on is of absolutely no concern to me.
An a-list celberty is someone who is always in the news. Who is hot and is the best at what they do.

Someone who is star of a currently released blockbuster movie or a record in the top end of the charts. Or someone who has had success in one or other of the above many times will stay on the A list for longer than a one hit or one movie wonder. Elton John falls into the category of someone who does not have any current or recent hits but has enough of them going back over many years to qualify and it is not surprising that he makes less music now because he is rich enough and has nothing more to prove. The thing about the A list is that not everyone will love all of them, so you may not, but enough other people do to qualify the star to be on the list. You may even think that he is a spoilt immature has been but if enough other people like him or his music he qualifies.
Simple. If they don't get invited to my parties, they're not A-List.
paris hilton would be deemed an A list celibrity as would victoria beckham, along with elton john all for what. for turning up at the opening of a letter, if it meant they would get their disgusting horrible faces and shittier personalities on the front of the sun.

I think celebs that can impact on all generations such as Madonna for example should be classed as A list
I really don't care whose on the list but it will always be perpetuated as an A list guest is always likely to be in the news.So really they are pawns in the game of publicity
someone who is well know through out the world and the ones the media loves. sometimes its like a one hit wonder. but mostly i think its the person who has their face plastered all over the magazine/newspapers covers and someone who has lots of money or power.
Don't knock Elton John - in the early days he was excellent he just discovered how to sell lots of records and make lots of money so followed that path. As for what makes an A list celebrity, I think it's someone who can 'do something' i.e. act, sing, whereas if you're anywhere else in the alphabet of celebrity, you've probably had your bluetits enhanced and are famous for that. Ps, I had to type bluetits because just 'tits' got censored.
Basically an A-list is a very famous celebrity. Anyone who is described as A-list will be someone that most people in the UK will have heard of. Johnny Depp for example, or Ozzy Osborne. Elton John is A-list because so many people have heard of him. He has had a career that has lasted for many years and this makes him very famous. Even though he is not as popular as he used to be he is still well known by people in general.

Anyone that is currently in the spotlight is A list. Film Star of a current film. Top earning sport star. Music artist high in the charts............its a fickle business showbusiness.
i suppose they are judged by the amount of starstruck lick-arses they have surrounding them, or by the p.r they use to keep reminding us how wonderfull they are.
I'd say someone who has a modicum of talent in their field of work and has had extensive global media coverage.( But there are millions who excel in their work and don't get recognition.) B celebs don't have much talent, but have media coverage locally.

Given that the definition of a celebrity is somebody who is well known for their well-knowness. An a-list celeb is someone who is exceptionally good at self-publicity & EJ is a true master of the art!

sadly to say in this day and age where a celebrity DOES NOT NEED TO BE GOOD AT ANYTHING (I'm talking to Paris Hilton etc...) A definition is hard to come by. In proper terms: anyone good enough at their talent to make lots of money and draw positive attention to themselves, thus forwarding their career. In more realistic terms: Anyone who gets on the front page of the tabloids, regardless of how important/life-changing/drastic the REAL news actually is. In MY terms: Anyone who is a waste of ever-more precious oxygen - i.e. anyone who carries a chihuahua as a fashion statement. I've got it in for ms. Hilton - can you tell?

The A list celebrities are chosen by the A list rich. They only invite people who they consider worthy of their attention and introductions to their A list rich friends. Elton John is on the list for a number of reasons - being a talented musician and entertainer - selling millions of records - being good company at their A list parties.
Well..... i guess an A list celebrity is one that is very well like by the people.....and its the people that decide who is and A list or one thats just there or B list.....and i have know clue about Elton John being an A list celebrity

someone that everybody of all age groups knows even if you are not really interested in what they do. for example, i don't think that soap actors are celebs cos i don't know who they are. demi moore is an a lost celeb cos even my 77 year old mum knows who she is even though she most probably has never seen one of her films.
There isn't an actual list or an actual definition as such. A-list celebrities are famous people who are generally agreed to merit their fame. The further down the alphabet you get the more dubious the title "celebrity" becomes.
I don't think that anyone in particular decides. It is just obvious when someone is at the top of their game and can command big bucks.
Is there one? It seems that nowadays anyone can get on it for any reason.
