How do I get music off my SD card and onto my phone?

I have a Android phone (telstra prepaid smart-touch) and I have added music to the SD card but for some reason it isn't showing up in my list of music, only on my SD card. How do I move/copy the music from my SD card to the phone?

1. Make sure your music is saved in a folder called 'music' in the root of your SD. If that doesn't work then try using a different music player, try double twist or power amp from the Android market. I don't think it's possible to move music to your phone.
2. the files stay on the SD card. your phone should automatically show that you have music on the card, just like it does when it is in the computer. there is something wrong with the phone maybe
