Best places to travel?

I was thinking about teaching in a foreign country but believe it will be too limiting for me right now. Instead, I am looking into traveling for an extended period of time and would like to do it with limited income. I have money but I would rather preserve that cash for something else. Any ideas on the best way to travel? I'm familiar sleeping in hostels, tents, cars, etc. Which continent/countries is the best for my interests? I found a couple who went all over Europe for 2 months under $5,000. I honestly want to see part of Europe, Asia, and Africa and wonder if it can be done in one trip. Should I just list out the countries I want to visit and figure out a plan from there? I know I sound ignorant because I am when it comes to traveling but your feedback is appreciated.
