Why do so many people change their tune when they're face to face with a politican?
While driving around rush hour today it was made aware to me to avoid certain areas in Chicago. Obama was having his birthday party, so the secret service and motorcade were out doing their thing. It got me thinking though, I've met people in politics before, and although some have been right wing (which is the opposite for me), I still find them charming for the most part. What happens to us that makes us change our tunes when face to face? I'd think maybe it's the "awe" factor, but in my past job I met A list celebs all the time! Yet I could care less about them in their presence (I prefer normal people). So when push comes to shove, would the majority of people really be jerks to the individuals that control our country in person, or would you cave like it seems most individuals do, and just keep your mouth shut, shake hands, and maybe even ask for an autograph? This is a question for both sides of the political spectrum. For me, I was raised to be respectful, and tactful. Not crazy. Crazy people never make their point. They just embarrass themselves, and the cause they're yelling about.

- Personally, I am always awed in the face of thieving slaving US richclass. I can't keep my tongue in.
- When we are face to face with anybody, we try to maintain our credibility and reputation by not ranting about their policies or going off on then like most people do online. Like you said.. crazy people never make their point.. even if their point is completely valid and rational, their presentation separates them from reputable characters like you and I.
- I didn't care for anything that GW Bush did, still he was the president and if I ever met him, I would show him courtesy and respect.
- We can all be respectful in approaching our elected officials and engage them in a discussion about their duties to this country. The rants of insults and name-calling is a sign of being misinformed and very disrespectful. Fortunate, my elected officials and I agree on most things in this country and they do represent me to my satisfaction. I have sent them emails of my disdain for the over-blown salaries of members of congress and their aids in comparison to our brave soldiers defending this country. Neither my Representative or Senator has responded on my issue. Once I can meet with them in a town hall meeting. I will approach them and ask them face-to-face.
- Well when faced with today's politicos, you have two major choices to choose from when facing a modern politician of a sharply oppositional viewpoint. 1. Murder them. 2. Speak to them rationally and calmly and try to make a better point than they do. Unfortunately, some people can't tell the proper timing for, or the difference between going for the number one or going #2. In the meantime too many things have just gone to shit lately.
