How do you put a list in a comment on Youtube?

When ever I try to put a list in a comment on Youtube like this: -thing -thing -thing -etc. Whenever i post the comment, it changes to this: thing thing thing etc. I've seen other people successfully do a list like the first example, but how do I get it to work?
