- Old technology. Typically 128k. Get DSL and save $$.
- Integrated Services Digital Network Allows multiple applications/feeds to use a shared bandwidth
- go to www.wikipedia.com in search box type ISDN u will find many more about it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a circuit-switched telephone network system, designed to allow digital transmission of voice and data over ordinary telephone copper wires, resulting in better quality and higher speeds than that which is available with the PSTN system. More broadly, ISDN is a set of protocols for establishing and breaking circuit switched connections, and for advanced call features for the user.
- only advantage (if there is any) is that it is symmetric in upload and download speeds. ADSL is asymmetric which is no problem for most people unless you host your website. but the speed si so slow, slow as a snail. and it ain't cheap.
- Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) ISDN was designed and implemented to be an upgrade from slower analog modems. The first difference between ISDN and analog modems is that an ISDN connection is pure digital from end to end. The main advantage of ISDN over analog modems is faster speed and simultaneous services, like voice and data. Another advantage is out-of-band signaling. Unlike analog modems, the clocking for an ISDN connection is performed on a separate connection, called a D channel. This means the actual connection that transmits and receives data does not have to waste bandwidth synchronizing the digital signal.
- Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is comprised of digital telephony and data-transport services offered by regional telephone carriers. ISDN involves the digitization of the telephone network, which permits voice, data, text, graphics, music, video, and other source material to be transmitted over existing telephone wires. The emergence of ISDN represents an effort to standardize subscriber services, user/network interfaces, and network and internetwork capabilities. Main Advantage: 1) ISDN applications include high-speed image applications (such as Group IV facsimile). 2) additional telephone lines in homes to serve the telecommuting industry. 3) high-speed file transfer, and videoconferencing. 4) Voice service is also an application for ISDN. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.pstfix.com
