What will my art teacher make us do in 8th grade art?
More details: - everyone in our grade took art through kindergarten to 6th grade but not in seventh grade. - on our supplies list for the class it says to have one 9X12 sketchbook spiral or hardcover, # 2 pencils, a white eraser, one pair of student scissors. Any ideas of what my teacher will have us doing? Thanks so much!(:

- I don't take art but I have friends that do. In eight grade art theyll probably just teach you the basics of drawing. How to draw straight lines, how to make perfect circles, and then you'll probably start drawin basic designs of things. Hope this helped!
- Based on what you've said, it sounds as if you'll be sketching. You may also learn how to make collages.
- Hi Looking at that tiny list - I would say that your Art Teacher may be the best teacher you will ever encounter in your school career. I would say that you have a chance to be innovative, to be free to express in art many of the things you may have always wanted to try before but the teacher would not let you do them. What would you like to sketch in that sketchbook? Thing on that just a bit. What really interesting things can you create with #2 pencils and that sketchbook? Now, that gives you a chance to exercise some choices does it not? You are going to get a chance to "think outside the box" that previous Art teachers may have forced you into -- think on that for a bit!! Scissors cut Paper, paper covers rock, Rock breaks Scissors - or so the game goes. But what else can you do besides cut paper with those scissors? Think on that for a bit. The teacher has not given you any list of what you cannot bring on the first day - so innovate and bring things that are essential to you to get color into your sketch book. Or think of other things that might be of use to you in Art Class. Don't overload you backpack with to many things. Just a half dozen well chosen items that you might find useful. Now about that "white" eraser?? Is that a unique request? Why not a pink or a blue or a purple eraser. If you feel comfortable doing this you might ask her when she asks you why she wanted you to bring such a small list of items - if it was alright that you brought a blue one and a purple one in addition?? I have a hunch that your Art Teacher is going to be innovative, fun, always thinking about how to do something in a different way, willing to answer questions with other questions and get you all involved in being Artists!! That is just a guess, but that is what I am predicting of your new 8th Grade Art Teacher. But, what do I know? I am 83 years old, never taught an 8th grade class - though I did teach Freshmen through Seniors in High School about Speech, and Plays, and reading aloud to others and a whole lot of things that got them to thinking just like your new Art Teacher is going to do with you!! Enjoy yourself above all else in your 8th Grade Art Class!! Cheers, Jim the Fee
