Hi, I would like to know if it is ok to sell items on ebay with overcharged shipping costs?

I have already posted this same revised version of my question once and i got some answers that convinced me I cannot do this morally/partially legally.I want to put this up 1 more time to get a few more points of view, but I think I have been convinced that I should not continue doing this, mostly because I have been convinced that I couldget introuble Hi, please follow along carefully. I listed the following questions on this site below previously.People replied with posts copy and pasted below.I needed to add more info which i will add at the end. Here was my initial question below For example, i can list an item on ebay for .01 and $20 shipping, and the listing fee would be .10 cents if i do it this way. If I put free shipping and $20 cost, listing fee is .75 cents. Believe it or not, these .75 cent charges add up if i list a whole bunch of items and they don't sell. Where if it only pay .10 cents it is not as bad if I list a whole bunch of items and they don't sell.So can anyone tell me if this is ok, or even LEGAL to do.Thanks, just trying to a little money. Please really convince me one way or the other, if you could give me some examples and sources that would be great. I don't want to get sent to jail or get a criminal record selling accessories for a little extra cash. Please do not say it is legal or illegal if you do not know for sure and don't have some sort of proof. P.S.I have asked this question before and nobody has completely convinced me, and some people tell me that it is morally wrong? So for those people let me explain it.Nobody gets ripped off or cheated, the buyer is paying the same amount of money that they normally would.I am stilled charged a final value fee on shipping so ebay still makes their money, the only cost I am avoiding is the listing fee. Once and a while a customer bids on an item and didn't look at shipping costs and wants to cancel the transaction or get a refund if they didn't look at the cost.I will gladly give them their money back and or cancel transaction. So all in all please let me know what you KNOW. Please scroll to the bottom of page for added info, thanks. Vaporize... Yeah it's Shipping and handling and their handling is however the amount they want to putt Artemis Agrotera As long as your costs are fully, clearly and completely disclosed, this is perfectly legal. Your potential customers simply need to have all of the information BEFORE the commit to buy. As long as there are no hidden or surprise fees, there is no fraud. I don't consider this to be morally wrong either. As long as the buyer knows exactly what s/he is going to pay and agrees to the transaction, there is no morality issue. If the buyer doesn't want to pay the fee, the buyer can simply go elsewhere. scott b Yes. I see people do that ALL the time. You can do that because it's shipping and HANDLING that they are paying for. Not just shipping. When I figure shipping, I figure cost of the box, packing materials, my time, etc. The only problem with doing that is that a lot of people will be turned away by it. I usually have better luck if I lower the shipping a lot. Then people bid more. Vet's Daughter Your buyer's won't pay you since it's deceptive advertising and it's against eBay policies. They'll remove your options and lock your account. No Quater People do it all the time but bidders are not dumb, if the shipping charges are too high they won't bid on the item. Big One 0909 With all due respect to my esteemed colleagues, some states have laws against the Shipping fees being more than the price of the item, and it is for this very reason. NOT in a case like a bag of sand that is worth a dollar but weighs so much that it costs ten to ship it, but to combat the exact type of fraud you are clearly stating it is your intention to perpetrate. Don't be such a putz. Ebay is entitled to the 65 cents you want to screw them out of. linlyons it's done all the time. however, you don't want to be ridiculous about it. eventually you'll get complaints. consider companies advertising "Free replacement ?? for life. Just pay shipping costs." you know they're making money on whatever it is. but $20 shipping on a book is obviously not honest. it indicates to folks reading your post that you can't be trusted to tell the truth. ADDED INFO People, example for you. I have listed a certain item on ebay that was listed at .01 and $25 shipping. People bought them and were happy with them and i avoided the high listing fees which would make it impossible to list a whole bunch of them as the ones that didn't sell would kill me in costs. Then i tried listing this items at price $25 and free shipping no one bought any of them and the listing fees cost me as well?So what can you say to that, thanks. And one person said it is illegal in some stat Thanks everyone for the help, except Big One he was quite rude at times even though he had helpful things to say at times.

  1. Charge as much as you want and buyers will treat you accordingly. Best that you say up front in your ad what your shipping charge will be.
  2. Same answer as last time you asked this. You'll lose your ebay account and will be charged for the listings even though they will be taken down anyway.
  3. It is not going to get MORE OK just because you keep asking. It is unethical and you are a cheapskate for trying to beat E-bay out of their 65 cents. Like they do not deserve to be paid for the service they provide. You would NEVER sell your junk without them, and you know it. So pay up. i bet you are a lousy tipper too.
  4. I have about 150 ebay ads running at all times. I really watch the price on my shipping. I keep it as cheap as possible. Here is why. If you are going to sell A LOT on ebay, the "Detailed" feedback makes a difference. If people start marking you down on your 5 star rating for High shipping costs, you lost your rank in where your items show up within Ebay searches (this goes for any of those categories where people can rate you, Item as described, Communication, Shipping time, and Shipping handling and charges). So if you keep getting low ratings your ads, when people search for stuff, will show up on page 25. If you have perfect feedback, great ratings from customers, and great Ebay compliance then your ads will show up on page 1 and in the first few ads (and yes, if you charge .99 for an item and $40 for shipping, and Ebay busts you for it, you get nailed on Ebay compliance then your ads will show up on page 25). So you can screw around if you want if you are just going to sell 2-3 items and charge a super high shipping charge, but you won't last long. If you plan on selling for a long time, sell properly. You do not want your ads hidden, and it is just scumbagish.
  5. Have you ever seen the report link on every listing? It's for reporting listing violations and activity that a customer thinks is wrong. If you go through those links you will find pull downs that include "excessive shipping charges" and circumventing eBay's fees. What you are doing is what caused eBay to start charging sellers in the US extra fees based on the total sale price including shipping. If they haven't done it in your country yet.... well, you are sure tempting them.
  6. I will say this: I quit selling on ebay 2 months ago because of poeple who do this sort of thing. Ebay has a new rule into play that they enforced about 2 months ago. You already know about your listing price fee. Well ebay's new rule say's that they now charge 10% to list if your a shop owner or if above your first free 50 items. Now they charge 12% on their shipping price too. So go ahead and charge 1 cent for the sale and pay 10% of that which is nothing cause now your gonna pay 12% on your shipping charge. Good Luck! & thanks for helping to ruin ebay. Without people like you I wouldn't be making as much money as I do from this new website I'm on so thank you! =)
