In Excel, how do I create a numbered list with periods?

I need to create a numbered list on the far left column, but I want to add periods after each number like this: 1. 2. 3. OR 1) 2) 3) How do I do that? I know how to do it without the symbols, but can anyone tell me how to do it with the period or parenthesis? Thanks!
