What sins are modern Christians supposed to avoid, since the OT ones can't really be practiced?
The Old Testament was full of things the Israelites weren't supposed to do, such as having sex while a woman is on her period, divorce, committing adultery (in fact it says if you do this, both the man and woman should be killed), eating shellfish, and homosexuality, etc. Too many to list. Now obviously most people believe that Jesus' death started a new covenant and that these Old Testament rules no longer apply to us today. So, what DOES still apply? I mean what specific sins should we seek to avoid now? I don't think it's even possible to still avoid the Old Testament sins because obviously we can't go killing anyone who cheats on their spouse and whatnot. So if many things from the Old Testament no longer apply to us today, what sins are we supposed to avoid now in our time? Anyone know?

- Butt sex.
- Passing gas in bed and then pulling the covers over one's partner's head...
- Christians don't have "dos and don'ts". We have only two laws, both of them are "dos", and we have only one commission, and it's also a "do". Rules are for people who still need to be babysat by them.
- The ten commandments - which no-one can keep - except with the help of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
- Don't seethe a calf in its mothers milk I mean everything in there is important, but this is surely among the most important that is because it is in the third set of 10 commandments, so ya know it is important, right?
- The WHOLE BIBLE is ancient, primitive, Stone Age-Bronze Age, before-science, absurd, fantasy, fairy tale nonsense!! Here's what Einstein, probably the smartest human to ever live, said- "The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this." - Albert Einstein Do you think you're smarter than Einstein? I totally agree with Einstein- The WHOLE bible is childish nonsense!!
- Apparently mocking is still in season.
- The easiest way to know is to read the New Testament. Basically, anything that was an old law that would justify you in God's eyes is something that no longer binds us. We are bound instead by rules that have to do with love...love your neighbor, love your enemies, love you Lord thy God with all of your heart and soul and mind, love your spouse enough to not commit adultery, etc.
- We should stop taking ..... a bite of the mushroom ..... even though Bill Clinton thinks ....Oral sex .... is not really sex. I don't think the OT can be divorced from the NT.. For the definition of ..... good or evil....... never changes. For it says god is the same yesterday today and forever! ... I change not! Shades of Gray ..... excellent answer, and I agree wholeheartedly!
- Jesus only fulfilled the O.T. some of the penalties aren't the same but sin is sin no difference
- You went to elementary school right? I think you know how to be nice to other people.
- any sin god says he hates and is a abomination to him should be avoided read the letters to rome and the church's paul write it list situations and commands as christians we are to follow and what to avoid such as this KJV: Colossians Chapter 3 [8] But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. [9] Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; [10] And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
- Christians are supposed to avoid anything that the GOP and Fox News tells them too, as long as it isn't too inconvenient. Because remember, Christians are "imperfect but forgiven" which means they're allowed to do all the things they condemn everyone else for as long as they tell Jesus "sorry" later. That's the wonderful loophole that that was created by the non-biblical interpretation that Jesus eliminated all the laws in the OT that make civilized people squeamish as long as you believe in him. It's like that old joke: "When I was younger, I really wanted a bike so I prayed to God to give me one, but then I realized that God doesn't work that way, so I stole a bike and asked God to forgive me."
- Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral (premarital sex) nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 1Cor. 6:10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality (a), impurity(b), (masturbation - a,b,c,d) and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition (c), dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like (d). I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
- You'll get different interpretations. All denominations have their own lists of dos and don'ts.
- Jesus said that all the laws and the words of the prophets could be summed up in Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all your heart , soul and might and your neighbor as yourself. Love is the rule that governs the hearts of Christians today. Is it loving to steal from a person? No, Is it loving to kill someone? No. We are told to forgive our enemies and pray for those who use us. Again this is the simple act of loving and realizing that we also need for others to forgive us for our mistakes.
- I would write a long speech and lecture for you but i am going to have to say read Leviticus first then read Romans and pray that the Lord will open your eyes to his word. ps I bet this was not the answer you where looking for but i believe he will open your eyes and heart.
- If it is listed as a sin in the bible for any one it is a sin for everyone ! God tells us He is a fair and just God. Jesus did start a new covenant for which i am most thankful. Most of us would have been killed for our sins if every one saw our sins as God does. Jesus tells us in the Bible that He came not to do away with the old testament but to fulfill it. But as he is very very merciful and He is very very forgiving He does not want to bring justice. But offers forgiveness for the ones who will turn from their sins How ever most refuse and ignore it. Do you believe that God would allow His son to be treated like He was for you and me for our salvation and not eventually bring judgment upon us if we keep living in sin and refusing His forgiveness. God is offering mercy But you have to quit your sinning. What would you do to someone if you allowed you son or daughter to go through what Jesus went through for the forgiveness of their sin and offered mercy and they refused and refused and refused and refused and refused etc ? How long would you keep offering mercy?
