How to do an Audi A4 Sedan 1999 Key Fob change?

I have followed instructions for a key fob change, from a complete master key and fob to another complete master key and fob, and now neither of them work. The instructions I followed are here.. Since I finally learned to do this "all by myself," I thought that I would share. There is a Tech Section listing dated January, 2002 in which Bill Bradstreet described the basics (but without testing them himself). Here is my revised version of his instructions: 1) Unlock all doors 2) Insert a spare key in the ignition and turn to the "accessory" position 3) Roll down driver's window 4) While standing outside, and with all doors closed, insert main fob (with new batteries) in door then twist to lock and release, making sure to leave fob in door 5) Reach inside and hold interior "unlock" button down for 10 seconds (this is why you keep the window open!) 6) Press the fob's "unlock" button once - the parking lights should flash once 7) Remove the fob and the spare key and you are done .... i first used my old key on the inside, that didn't work, then i tried to switch them up, using the old one on the outside. Now neither of them work to electronically unlock my door..what do i do? I am posting a picture of the keys. New and old. nevermind ..i cant post a picture.. you know what they look like lol.

  1. well I'm assuming the good one worked before you tried the old key on the outside? If so then repeat the procedure with the old key on the inside and new key on the outside and try that. If the new key and old key never worked it could be just simple batteries(in the old one?), or it could be the receiver on the car itself which is a pain to fix. I have no idea how to fix the receiver (ours have never broke). If you can't fix it I would take it to the dealer and just front the money for them to do it, or you could always go old fashioned and unlock you door manually.
