How do you go about finding a good horse breeder?

I am not breeding, or even looking to get a horse, at this point. I don't even know the first thing about horses... Simple curiosity. (: Because I know that with dogs, there is a whole list of requirements that a breeder should meet.

  1. Try eBay or Amazon
  2. Horses aren't like dogs. The only reason you would go to a breeder is to get a foal or maybe one of their retired broodmares. Normally, you would go to a private seller and would try out the horse. Since you are totally inexperienced, your first horse should be an older and well broke horse. You would start by looking at some ads and calling the sellers. To truly answer your question though, a good breeder should: 1.Have a good knowledge in conformation, bloodlines, hereditary diseases and horses in general. 2.Have quality horses and maybe examples of horses they have bred and what they are doing right now 3. Well cared for and disease free horses.
