What are your criteria for putting a rapper on a top 10 list?

I was thinking about this after reading Ant's Tupac q. What things do you count when taking a place on a top 10 greatest rappers list into account? Personally, I think lyricism, impact and longevity should have a place. What about you?

  1. Lyrics, Respect Hip Hop's Legends, A Classic, A hit Record, and not be a sellout.
  2. I agree, but lyrical content has to be the number one.
  3. well......thanks bonnie for mentioning what i was about to say lol Co'sign You Lyricism comes first ^_^
  4. Ability to keep his mouth shut. I think Marcel Marceau was the greatest rapper the world has ever known.
  5. LYRICAL CONTENT and LYRICAL ABILITY
  6. Everything you said! -Style -Charisma -and good/decent beats
  7. Tattoos, Gangsta rep, bitch ho references. Oh and booty shakers in their videos......
  8. 1. Are they a legend? 2. Can any other act be compared to them? 3. Is anything "unique" about them? 4. Has this artist put out a classic album, if so how many? 5. In what way has this artist contributed to hip hop? I dont agree with longevity...look at Big L, Big Pun, Pac & Big...
  9. Lyricism, Flow, Consistency, Beats, Stays true to his/her style and not sell out to whats "in" (aka Lil Wayne)
  10. content, versatility, delivery should be mentioned as well...I want the most well rounded artist at the top
  11. What everyone else said.. -lyrics -beats
  12. 1)Lyrical Content 2)Diversity (different type of songs) 3)Versatility (able to adjust to fast/slow beats and still sound good) 4)Originality 5) Speaking Voice (alot of artists are good, but have annoying/hard to understand voices. Example: If ShawtyLo did "Meet the Parents" by Jay-Z, I probably wouldn't like it as much
  13. Cosistency (longetivity is nothing without consistency), song catalog, album catalog, etc.
  14. my personal influence with the rapper how that rapper touched me thats it honestly i dont care what the rapper did for anyone else i take my music personal and thats how i make my list
  15. I reckon 1. Flow - complex rhymes, different rhyming structures, and technique 2. Lyrical content - intelligent or insightful and witty 3. Longevity - no one hit wonders 4. Impact on the Hip hop culture and influences on other artists 5. No over-reliance on production (ie Kanye) - let the lyrics do the business. My fav rappers - Nas, Tupac, Biggie, Rakim, the roots, Common (pre-kanye), Mos Def, Talib, k-os, Little Brother among others
