How do VIP packages work? (Pay wise)?

Next month my friend and I are going to a concert and we want to get the VIP package cause we want to meet/greet with the band members. Anyways, so when I pay for the package, is it gonna say something on the general ticket? Or do I just need to go to the designated time for VIP and my name will be on the list? Do they send a VIP thing in the mail letting the people know on the day of the show? Or... what?
