In 2011 Nasa had a volunteer list put out for 400 people to do a dead mission for a company that is closing?

If Nasa is closing its' space program, why were they taking volunteers and why are they still hiring for astronauts? I'll send you the link, in 2003 Bush ordered Nasa to close down by 2010. The current president went in and extended the operation of the program but it is shutting down. The space program is being put into the hands of the private industry.

  1. NASA is NOT closing its space program. You are seriously misinformed. NASA has ended its shuttle program, but is continuing to send astronauts to the Space Station using Russia's Soyuz system. They currently have nearly a hundred active missions.
  2. cuz this earth economy coming to an end
  3. Lost Girl....Keep this up and Black Helicopters will be landing in your back yard soon, and the people in them will be VERY displeased. You're blowing the cover on some pretty high level secrets here!!
  4. Sorry but you are wrong, Nasa is not closeing down there space program they simply got to make cutbacks, but there are still plenty of things planned for the future.
  5. All NASA is suspending is its manned launch capability. We still have a manned program using the Russians for rides to the ISS. And they're still developing and launching unmanned probes as well as doing non-space research. There are several missions in progress, including another Mars rover scheduled to launch in the next few weeks. Bush didn't close NASA down, he gave it more funding. In 2005 he authorized a plan for manned missions to the moon and mars. The current administration canceled it.
  6. NASA is NOT closing, that's complete nonsense. All that happened was they retired the space shuttle. If you paid attention to NASA press releases, you would know about the new launch vehicle which has been proposed to taken humans back to the Moon, to Mars and beyond. http://www.nasa.gov/exploration/systems/sls/sls1.html
  7. I notice that in the 17 hours between your question and me answering it, you have failed to provide the promised link. NASA is not a company, it is an agency of the United States Government. It doesn't have "dead" missions and it is not closing. There is a temporary suspension of the US heavy lift program, and until a replacement launch vehicle is developed, US astronauts will be ferried to the ISS by Russian Soyuz craft. The only part of your question with a glimmer of truth is the last part. Private industry is be encouraged to provide support, it is NOT taking over spaceflight research!
