What are some mathematical formulas used in the real world?

Hello there, I am a pre-cal student doing a project that requires me to find formulas that are used in the real world. I have two formulas, Standard deviation formula, and Extraterrestrial Solar Illuminance formula, but it's hard to find any more formulas other than simple ones like (length = width * height). If you can show me a formula that isn't simple like the one I just listed, it would be appreciated greatly. Thanks!

  2. The Rule of 72 is a good formula that has to do with Banking. Example: 'An investor that knows he can earn 12% on his money may ask the question, “how long will it take to double my money at this rate of return?”. Using our handy Rule of 72, this is a snap to calculate! Simply divide the magic number (72) by the investor’s rate of return (12). The answer (6) is the number of years it would take to double the investment.'
