Why do people say that the USA is a bad place to live?
I hear a lot of anti-American rants on here, usually from non-Americans, that the US is a horrible place to live in and that Americans have "false patriotism" and unfortunately, some Americans are starting to believe that. I have been hearing that the USA has a low -standard of living from people on here, but proof is never given, so I decided to take the matter in my own hands and look up online- mostly because I have nothing else to do right now, lol. I was expecting to see the USA far down on the "quality of life" and "standard of living" ranks but I literally almost fell out of my chair in astonishment when I found the results! These were taken recently: USA is ranked # 7 when it comes to "quality of life" in the world ( actually higher than Canada- which is hailed by many people on here to be a "better country" than the US): http://internationalliving.com/2010/02/quality-of-life-2010/ It isn't that low in "standard of living" either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Development_Index 2011 was ranked in 4th place for Very High Human Development I hear many times of people saying that Americans are being "brainwashed to thinking that the US is the best country in the world" when I actually think the opposite is happening. Americans are being brainwashed by anti-American media and non-Americans online into believing that their country is a horrible place to live in and that America is going down, in hopes of squashing the patriotism that most Americans uphold and making them feel insecure- almost like the whole "your fat because you wear a size 4 in pants" syndrome. According to these lists, the USA is actually a pretty nice country to live in, lol, so American's patriotism for their country is obviously not "false". Unfortunately, a lot of Americans don't bother doing research on their country and believe what anti-American media/people tell them. I can admit that I didn't know this until I looked it up and now gives me a whole different perspective on things. @ Poll- That is true too. People say the US has a bunch of crime everywhere, which is false. There are plenty of safe states to live in. I have been to Colorado Springs, Colorado about 13 times and people there have never even heard of crime before, lol. @ Ghj- Lol what countries don't have crime? The crime of auto theft is actually higher in Canada than it is in the United States and so are knife crimes. And as I said already, there are plenty of states that are safe to live in. Pretty much proves that you didn't bother looking at my links, reading my whole question and your just being a typical Yahoo idiot that doesn't like facts. @ Vivek- Why? Because people are jealous of what Americans do have? I kind of figured.. @ Carnage- 1. Islamic extremism is a problem spreading in countries in Europe, Canada and Australia 2. Europe is having economic problems, as well 3. a lot of jobs are being outsourced/ not only ones in the US 4. Yes, but the Government is obviously in the works of fixing that. Why do you want health care like Canada when they are only ranked in 30th place? Michael Moore loves brainwashing people into thinking that their Health Care is so many times better than ours when it obviously isn't, according to WHO 5. No proof of that 6. No proof of that 7. Government trying to fix that/ doesn't completely "suck" though. Only public schools do. Private schools are nice here and we have the world's best colleges. 8. Do you know how much is costs to live in other countries? WAY higher than ours @ Jan- I think all your thumbs downs and no thumbs ups speak for themselves. Your too much of an idiot for me to waste my time on, lol. And Nick is right, not you. Quit being jealous of the Americans, yeah? And I haven't met an American who talked about my home country before, in my life. Also, that video you posted is old and there is one called Germans are NOT stupid- With Subtitles, that explains how you can make anyone look stupid. There is also a British one. You fail at life and I am just going to laugh at your ignorance. Oh and quit using your 50 accounts that you have to thumb down people on here, you no-life piece of shite troll lol
Public Comments
- good point
- Anti Anti Anti USA injustice for all!
- America is a great place to live. People who talk bad about America are foreigners who wished they live here.
- It's senseless to place the USA in a whole, in a ranking index, if you ask me. It would make more sence to place the single State. For all I know New York is a good place to live, but Mississippi is a hell hole. Get it?
- I think the world as a whole is bad. I think it was much better less evil in the past. But America is the best of a bad situation.. and i don't think the people are as bad as the government.
- 1. being over run by over breeding mexicans 2. there are so many social programs being pushed by liberals....we are going broke 3. our jobs/manufacuring have been outsourced to other countries due to overregulation 4. medical care is so outrageously overpriced ---- 5. our government is run by big pharma 6. our produce is disease ridden garbage unless you grow it yourself 7. our education system sucks 8. the cost of living continues to rise---and wages do not
- That's what rational people think, the ones who bash us the most are more than likely to never have experienced America and probably haven't left their own country and maybe never even left their city. I can see to strict Muslims why they'd hate America, but i bet the Amish love America and they isolate themselves from American lifestyles. I have to just ignore the less educated ones here.
- U know the answer.
- Crime
- They hate us and want us to leave and call us all these names, but when they get butt f*cked by a natural disaster or start a war with some, guess who their new best friend is? go ahead, thumb me down. I'm usually a pretty rational person, but i can't deal with any of these people. I also can't stand how the canucks on here think they're perfect and the 'nicest people in the world' while they go and bash on every other country. lol @ Jan- you are a dumb ass. you've never even been to the US "plus i watch the news" way to just prove my point. You say americans are ignorant, but yet you actually listen to what the media says? 2 and a half years? ok, you were probably in the same state the whole time and until you meet every american dont generalize dumb ass. good comeback, didn't have anything else to say? you already said all the 'facts'? every single thing you said is a generalization. I will now accept that I'm right and you're wrong and stupid. Notice how it is a canadian who asked that question, thus proving that a lot of canadians thinks they're the shit and they aren't as nice as they say they are. do you honestly think i care what stupid people on yahoo think about the US. Did you also notice how all those people's answers were generalizations just like your original answer? the flag on the bottom left of the question is most definitely a canadian flag. You didn't prove any points. You just said all these generalizations about us and made yourself look stupid. good job. There are stereotypes about other countries, but that doesn't mean people believe them. You just seem to believe them because of what the ' media feeds you. Which makes you ignorant. lol you couldn't be more wrong lol, you idiot. it's called "editing out all the people who gave the right answers to make our idiotic australlian viewers think all americans are stupid so we can make money" the media is sooo biased. the fact that you would acutally believe something like that amazes me. when did i say we had a perfect country? i can admit my country isn't perfect and our economy sucks and we have some ignorant people, unlike you. you think you live in a perfect country so you bash on americans all the time. Look around genius, every country is in the sh!ts right now.
- i wouldn't want to live there, it's full of ignorant people, crimes, no freedom, and the laws there are very strict for a western country, i don't like the U.S government, all the americans carry guns, no healthy food, bad health care, financial crisis, wars, racism, rednecks, air pollution, many countries have issues with america. Americans drive their huge SUV'S to the supermarket which is just around the block and park it in their mansions and warm up their 50.000,00 dollar swiming pool just to take a swim and keep their air conditioners on while they sleep, resuming: huge energy consumers, that F-cks up the atmosphere, they invade other countries, terrorist attacks against the USA And MattyJ, why would you want to defend an ignorant country that thinks the Republic of Ireland and the UK are the same thing? i'm not saying nobody would want to live there but i'm sure i wouldn't, it depends if you like americans or not. Nick Cllins, Ha! i've been there when i was 5, i stayed 2 and a half years there and plus i watch the news nick, don't need to get all "butthurt yankee" FACTS i already said all the facts, just accept that i'm right and ur wrong http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au8it7e1j38bQdREuZSz4zgjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20070327121449AAH7hwo nope not canadian, it was actually an irish girl, read the comments LOL who gives a sh!t? i made my point about americans, end of story and me generalizing americans? please, that's what your country does to other countries. didn't you read the answers about ignorant americans in the link i gave you? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJuNgBkloFE yeah, you know i'm right, don't you? =) OH SORRY, so you think your country is the only country in the world that is perfect and has no stereotypes? MattyJ, LOL Chillax dude, most of the people here are americans, thats why i got thumbed down http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti_americanism Oh, let me guess... ur going to say that wikipedia isn't a reliable site?
- I don't get it either, but I agree with you. @Jan: The great majority of Americans I know are nothing like you described at all. Nice try. And yes, it's incredibly easy to edit all the correct answers out of that video.
- I don't think USA is a bad place to live.. I'm a Filipino, and I love USA.. never been there.. but I have an American Dream.. I wanna get there and live there.. coz I like the culture, and your life is very convenient.. you have everything.. you have cool stuffs that we don't have in our country.. and admire the patriotism of the people.. what I just don't like is there are a lot of hispanic people (I'm sorry, I don't tend to be racist) it just bothers me.. and Chinese are all over the place aswell.. and it's hard to talk to them coz most of them are having trouble speaking in English.. I'm experiencing this coz I'm working in a call center (outsourced). I'm working for a company based in US.. and most of our callers are Spanish speakers, and Chinese.. It's so hard to communicate with them.. :( It's like they don't understand then they're getting mad.. smh.. It's crazy! The company I work for is in the US, so I expect more of American callers, but it's the opposite.. they're a bunch of Spanish speakers, and Chinese.. I can't just get it, why they live in the US but not even try to learn the language? I know learning a language is not that easy, atleast they could try.. but still I'd love to live there.. :)
- You are correct.
