How well do you know NYC? Maybe you can help me out?

What are some of the most popular places in New York City? In example: Chelsea, Soho, Midtown, Murray Hill, etc... I'm trying to make a list of the most business-driven areas of NYC, can someone help me out? yes sonyak, that is what i meant thanks Old School for the advice but I was hoping to get more from what people refer to from the top of their head instead of strictly pulling from a map. I am not from New York you see, so I'm not familiar with the local geography. Perhaps some may suggest particular main streets? What area/streets/places would you find office buildings in? Not so much retail... but offices.

  1. "Business-driven?" As far as NYC is concerned, that's like asking, "What's the wet part of the ocean." NYC is all business. Well, of course there are areas mostly residential, but basically, it's all about business. Maybe you mean the sectors that relate to business services, like Wall Street? That and some other business services are mostly in the same general area, "downtown."
  2. Get a map of NYC. It lists the neighborhoods on them.
  3. the other guy is correct, you need to be more exacting in what kind of business you are searching (or what you mean by popular) for because NY really _IS_ all business ... ie: Midtown... midtown west is fashion, magazines and MTV, midtown east is sorta like "wall street north" but then again not really, because the financial industry can be found from times square to grand central... your question is too broad.
  4. Major shopping areas for the Bronx: Fordham Road, Grand Concourse, Jerome Avenue For Brooklyn: Adams St/Borough Hall area; Sheepshead Bay; Marine Park; Flatbush Avenue Queens: Roosevelt Avenue; Main Street/Flushing; Jamaica Avenue Staten Island: Victory Blvd; Forest Avenue; Staten Island Mall/Richmond Avenue; Main Street/Tottenville Manhattan: 207 St; Dyckman St; 181 St; 168 St; Columbus Circle; Lexington Ave.; Times Sq; 34th St; Greenwich Village
  5. in midtown..offices / showrooms are mostly in broadway between 35 st. to 42nd st. i know for sure because thats where i work... this week is market week so all of the buyers from l.a, pa, texas etc. are in that area... market week is when all the buyers start buying from their wholesale vendor, they usually go to the showroom and see what new styles the vendor has.. right now, retail buyers are starting to buy for spring and fall 07.
