Marketing Consulting - Starting my own business?

I am currently a Marketing Manager for a top investment bank in Manhattan. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant and I would like to work from home. I want to take my marketing skills and start my own consulting business. I would like to do outsourced marketing consulting and proofreading. My current employer outsources all the time, and I know they would add me to their list. Only problem is, I have no idea how to start my own business. Where do I begin?

1. Print up some business cards with your new busines information and start passing them out to your contacts...you'll be amazed how easy it is. Use MSWORD or PUBLISHER templates for your invoices (online or mailed) and create a website for yourself listing your services (be sure to put the link on your buiness cards). That's it, you've started. One you start making some money, open a separate small business bank account to keep it separate from your personal account and keep track of your income and expenses for tax purposes at the end of the yaer. You're good to go!
