Can you obtain a (small) mailing list without spending a lot of money! If so, how?

I am trying to send out about 1000 postcard with coupons to promote my business. It's a very small business and I can't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for a mailing list. Does anyone have any suggestions?

1. Use the telephone directory. Try a college directory. if it is local, use flyers on cars, think ouside the box
