I need a good reading list for this summer!!!!!?

I am traveling a lot this summer and I'm planning on bringing like a suitcase of books with me to pass the time. I need some advice on what to bring. I LOVE all of the Jodi Picoult books and Nicholas Sparks, so something along the lines of that would be great. However, I'm really not that picky. I do read a lot and am not phased by long books. So, HELP!!!!!!! Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!

  13. I'll offer the same type of suggestions that I have offered to others with this question. I'll offer ideas from different genres, so that you can pick what type of book you're in the mood for... For horror/suspense: -H.P. Lovecraft's short stories, such as "The Dunwich Horror," "The Dreams in the Witch-House," "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" etc...many of his stories have an excellent spook factor and eerie endings (and there are some excellent books that are collections of Lovecraft's greatest works) -Books by Dean Koontz - I've heard Watchers is good, which is why I'm working on that right now. I've heard many people refer to him as an excellent author in the suspense area. For fantasy/fiction: -The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien -The Lord of the Rings trilogy by Tolkien -The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis -I don't know how old you are, but when I was a little younger I liked a lot of Tamora Pierce's series. My favorite series of hers was always Circle of Magic (which has four books, each one revolving around a kid with a special power...). I also heard her The Song of the Lioness series was good. (You don't have to be young to enjoy her books/series...). For historical fiction (a lot of these contain underlying romance, as well): -Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery (it has eight books overall, the first one being Anne of Green Gables). This series takes place in the early 1900s, and is about a hot-headed, stubborn orphan girl who finds a way of fitting into the little town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island... -Any of the books by Jane Austen, such as Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Persuasion, etc...Most of her books are about women of the 1800s and their attempts at fitting into society and finding romance/love, if you didn't already know. -Little Women by Louisa May Alcott For something a little more classic, perhaps: -Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift -To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee -Frankenstein by Mary Shelley -A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens For Sci-Fi: -books by Kurt Vonnegut, such as Slaughterhouse-Five, Cat's Cradle, etc... Best wishes!

  18. Okay, these might not be the genre you're looking for, and they will probably be way too easy for you, but here are some suggestions. Have a great summer and vacation! 100 science words every college graduate should know from the Editors of the American Heritage Dictionaries (this is a series, there are other 100 words books as well, not always interesting, but great for your vocabulary). Any Small Goodness: a novel of the barrio by Tony Johnston young adult/children's, fiction, about 125 pages About a family living in Los Angeles, really great, with a glossary of Spanish words in the back. Around the World in 80 days by Jules Verne sci-fi, adventure, classic, basically the title of the book gives away the main story. I'm Nobody! Who are you? Poems by Emily Dickinson or any other poetry anthology. (Emily Dickinson's grasp of language was unique). Journey to Jo'burg: A South African story by Beverly Naidoo children's, fiction, about 70-80 pages long Two children travel alone 300 kilometers to Johannesburg to find their mom, who works there as a maid. Kiki Strike (series, 2 books - Inside the Shadow City; The Empress's Tomb) by Kirsten Miller mystery, young adult, adventure A group of girls explore an underground city hidden beneath New York City, fighting assassins, smugglers, and kidnappers and having amazing adventures. Each book is at least 300 pages. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen classic Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen classic The Power of Un by Nancy Etchemendy sci-fi, children's A boy is given a device that can undo mistakes and must find a way to save his sister's life. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne sci-fi, classic When My Name Was Keoko by Linda Sue Park historical fiction, young adult About a Korean family and their resistance during World War 2, almost 200 pages. I also find biographies to be good reading too, and a great way to expand your horizons. Hope this helps in your admirable quest for reading material. Good luck.
