How do I add people to my online list in my yahoo email?

I wanted to chat with this person online, but it keeps on saying that I need to add her to my windows live contacts. So I added her to my contacts, but it still won't let me chat with her.

1. When you add someone they must agree to add you to their messenger list, she might decline this and then not show as online to you, she will get an online message asking if she agrees to adding you as a contact.
2. Semd an invitation for her to accept.
