Help planning for Prom.?

kayso, i have MOST of it figured out. i rented a stretch hummer for my senior prom, and i invited 8 girls plus their dates. i've made invitations, calling our group the "a-list". regardless of what prom theme is, my "party" theme is alist, or hollywood. basically, all my theme is used for, is the invites and the dinner. i have the invites almost finished, and all i have left is to plan the dinner. so i could either.. a) do like everyone else and have dinner at a restaurant. b) rent a small room (i only have 18 people going) to have dinner in. i have a few ideas, but in order to keep this short im just going to stick to that. but remember, this is jsut a dinner. i dont want to go all out like im decorating for prom. i just want something simple but cute and unique. ;o) thanks

  1. Go to a restaurant that has a "vip" seperate room?
  2. A lot of caterers have small on-site banquet rooms. You don't have to limit yourself to just restaurants.
  3. well, there are two things to consider: #1- if you go to a restaurant will everyone pay for their own dinner or are you going to take care of it #2 if you have a private room with a caterer, will you pay for it or have everyone pitch in. I guess it depends on how much money you would like to spend. It maybe a little silly, but you could do a "pot luck", have everyone one attending make a dish! then have a person who is not participating, (maybe a parent or a younger sibling) go around town and pick up all the dishes early. bring them to the location that you have set, and have them set up almost a "buffet" style spread. This way it is cheap on your wallet and you will have tons of different kinds of foods. It could still be fancy if you decorate the table accordingly, use nice china and silver and have everyone make exotic plates (or if they are culinarily dumb, they could order a dish from a restaurant). try to spread out different courses, have a few make salads, a few make entree's, a few make deserts, and a few make drinks. hire your little brother (or similar) to serve it and make him dress up in nice black slacks and a white button down shirt, This should be a great money saver, that way you can use the rest of your funds on partying and tipping your limo driver good luck!!
  4. What about a cookout? That's what my friends and I wanted to do this year, if it wasn't too cold outside.
  5. Another idea is to have a "progressive dinner" where you decide in advance which of your friends' houses you'll go to for certain courses and you have the stretch drive you to one house for the appetizer, the next for soup and the next for the main course, the next for dessert, coffee, etc. That way, parents can meet at different houses for pictures and you can start "way early" in the afternoon. If you don't want to have it at "houses", a group of girls and/or couples can be responsible for footing the bill for everyone appetizers at one restaurant and then you go to a different place for the main course where another group splits the bill and then to another place for the next course, etc. There are lots of ways you can make it work depending on budgets, etc.
