when plugging in my i-pod to a usb port I cannot sync the latest songs from i tunes?

I have no i pod icon in the library menu and unable to access the "sync i pod from the file menu, that and the transfer purchases from ipod are of a light shade so unable to click on them I have spent about four hrs going through the apple help menus to no avail. reinstalled itunes tried all the usb ports they are all working with other devices except the ipod etc etc HELP!

1. hi try resetting your ipod , check the manual i think you hold down menu and play . This reboots it , plug it back in and see if that works it may just be stuck in a loop
