Baby Shower?

My mother in law mentioned that she had a baby dinner after the baby was born for the "baby shower" for my sis in law...I told her that I didn't exactly want to wait until after the baby is born. My husband and I are going to be tryin for a baby and I want to start getting things for the baby..but my mother in law says not to because people will buy things for me. ButI dont want to not have tings when the baby is born because I was "hoping" that people would buy the things for me. I don't expect anyone to buy any type of expensive item or cheap items. Is there anything wrong with making a registry, and buy things throughout my pregnancy and then leave the other things on the list for my shower? Do you think i'm being rude? I just want one child and I want everything for my child for this special time. I don't want to miss out because I was waiting incase someone would buy something

1. There is nothing wrong with making a registry.. but dont buy things before you are actually pregnant! After 3 months of pregnancy your risks or miscarriage signifigantly decrease.. and thats the time to start purchasing for baby. With my son.. we had the shower when I was 8 months along... with my second baby, who is due around the first of Feb.. we are waiting until after. It really doesnt make a difference either way.. although they should leave the choice up to you! It is after all, your baby! If you register with Target... it will tell you what has, and has not, been purchased off your list.. which should help. You can also ask someone to act as a "gift liason", like your mother in law... she can suggest certain items to people if they ask, so you dont recieve 8 of the same thing! Good luck getting preg, and I hope everything works out for you!
2. i wouldnt make a registry until AFTER you actually get pregnant...probably not until you know the sex of the baby...this will help when picking out things you want to register for. politely tell your mother in law that you would like to have your shower before the baby is born (mention to her that this will be the only child you are having and want to have the "fairytale" pregnancy everyone dreams about...which includes the big shower with your big belly!!!) i DONT suggest buying ANYTHING before your shower....TRUST ME....i am 38 weeks pregnant with my first and i did the same thing you are thinking about...iw as worried no one would get me what i wanted, so i would go out and buy little things here and there.....by the time my shower came around, i ended up getting numerous duplicate items i had to take back!!!! some people (especially people who have recently had babies) do not look at your registry when shopping for you and buy things they think are essentials from their experience....many people dont like shopping for baby gear in fear that you may not like it and will just give you gift cards (a majority of the out of town people that cant make your shower will send you gift cards)....trust me, you will be surprised the amount of gifts and clothes you will recieve (especially the clothes...some people go crazy over clothes because they are so irresistably cute and inexpensive!!!) i had 2 truck fulls of gifts after my shower and only 15-20 showed up....not to mention so many gift cards i had to write the amounts on the back of each of them to keep t4rack of them!!!! you can always go through the gifts after and return what you dont like and use the gift cards to get the other essentials you need...but PLEASE dont make the same mistake i did...you will be pleasantly surprised with how generous people will be for your little boy or girl!!!!
