Does everyone buy newborn clothes for a baby shower?
I am just starting to put together a registry list for my baby. I was at a baby shower a month ago and it seemed EVERYONE bought tiny outfits that weren't on her registry. She had way too many clothes. If you have had a baby or shower did this happen to you?

- What you could do as i did is go to certain people and make a personalized list for them like what you think that you will like for the baby when the baby is a little bit older 3-6 months or even a year so that you are planning for the future. I did that with my mom aunt and grandmother and i am so happy i did it takes off the financial burden in upcoming clothes purchase. Certain registries do allow you to return things if people bought outfits that werent on your registry at their store and you dont like it.
- its never happened to me but thats why its always a good idea to also request gift cards on the registry as well. hopefully your guests will be proactive and also give u the recpt of they buy something not on your registry.
- It happened at my work baby shower but the family shower people knew beter and bought some bigger stuff which REALLY helped. While its so fun and adorable to buy little newborn stuff in reality the mother will want bigger things as well;)
- i just went to babys 'r' us with my cousin to register her and the lady that we were working with said not to register for any baby clothes. #1 b/c the clothes come and go so quickly that they might not be there for people to buy. #2 so many people are going to buy onesies and things like that anyways, that its just not needed! and P.S. i dont know if you have had children before, but you can never have TOO many clothes for a baby! they can go through 5 outfits a day! so dont worry if you get a lot of that! also, if you do get things like that and you dont want them, most stores will let you return the items and get something else that you want!!! hope this helps!!!
- Hopefully, some of the people who attend will have the sense to buy some things for six months down the road. Most parents really don't take their tiny infants out a lot at first, so a lot of those cute little outfits go to waste. I'm a big believer in buying something in a six-month size that's appropriate to the weather that the baby will be living in six months after the birth.
- for my baby shower i received different size clothes thank god! i didnt have to buy clothes until my baby was about 6 months. since i had gotten her clothes and on my baby shower she received so much clothes also. so next time on your registry put clothes size 6-9 and 9-12 b/c the newborn clothes you only use about 5 times each set before they grow out of it
- I put one together for my sister and to kind of avoid that we used a theme. You know like on the invitations buy something for this holiday or buy something for this time of day.. there are tons of shower ideas online. I would also register for a variety of sizes. my sister did and she got tons of different sizes which was nice because the baby just grows out of everything so fast. congrats on the baby and good luck!
- If you havn't sent the invites out why not put on the invite different age's like say three people put newborn, three people 3-6 months, etc. I dont know if thats proper but it would eleviate the overload . Just and idea .
- Yes, at my baby shower my son ended up with 100, 0-3mos. outfits, no kidding. He never even wore most of it. Not to mention I had no drawer space for all that! I always buy people something like 6-9 mos. or something the baby will grow into. Or me and someone else will go together on a big gift on the registry.
- I would not want all that clothes just say on the invitation what you want and no babay clothes.
- Actually, at my baby shower the one thing we didn't get a lot of was clothes. Which, I didn't mind because everyone got the expensive things out of the way for us - and we got to shop for the clothes which was fun. But, I have heard of people getting lots of newborn clothes, so many that the child didn't even get to wear everything. My advice is to buy enough Newborn stuff,....but also get a head start on 0-3 months because they will be in that size before you know it. And, if you can by the stretchy onesies in the packages you know? I have found that the gerber ones lasted my son about 5 months and he is big and grows rapidly. This mainly applies to boys - Boys seem to grow physically a little faster. Although some girls are the same size as boys, I've noticed baby girls stay little and dainty longer. If you are having a girl, I would think it would be safe to buy a little more newborn stuff.
- It's good to get some for all sizes. I found that mine wore a few outfits alot and some not at all, she had way too many. Luckly I know other mommies to be that needed stuff too. Some outfits you may not even like, so its nice having some to choose from. Also ask for bigger diapers too. They're very handy that way. Also My sister got a gift card to fast food so they could have something to eat other than hospital food.Good Luck!
- Yes, it happened at my shower. I had a registrywith everything I actually NEEDED and got hardly any of it, and got mostly only clothes. I had already had tons of clothes thatfriends had given me, and had no need for more and my son STILL has not even worn half of the clothes he got and grew out of them with the tags still on. You can maybe word it politely on the invitations that you don't need clothes. My cousin (who was just inviting family, it may be different with friends and family-maybe considered rude) had something like this on herinvite: "Although it is not required, if you would like to purchase a gift for the mommy-to-be please check her registry located at: Traget, Toys-r-us, etc (you get the idea)- for the items she is need for and would like your help in getting. Also of much need is gift cards for future needs of the baby. " Hope that helped, good luck!
- Yep, most of the gifts were the small item and then a cute little outfit...unfortunately my daughter wore NB clothes for about a DAY! kidding but she had pretty much grown out of NB by the time she was 2 weeks and I was left with an @ssload of clothes to take back but no receipt...Most of them from Target...and if you've ever tried to take anything back to target w/o a receipt then you know how it feels to be treated like a common criminal. I explained my situation, but I still only got a quarter of what the price was on the actual item, even though I had my gift registry there. Needless to say I don't shop there anymore. But people love to pick out their own outfits, no matter if you register for actual clothes, they are still going to buy what they think is cute.
- this is what i do when i go to baby showers.....2 outfits for newborn...2 for 3-6 months , and 2 outfits for 6-9 months..people always get all newborn sizes which makes no sense because i swear they only last the first month...
- I think it depends on how sensitive your guests are to your needs. Feel free to tell guests on the baby shower invitations "Already has plenty of newborn clothing" - I think most people like to give a gift that you NEED that will be used and appreciated. My company website would be a great suggestion too! Hope I could help! Best Wishes!!! Lynnae
- It does happen a lot. When I attend a baby shower, I bring size 18 months.
- I HAD 2 BABYSHOWERS--AND MOST PEOPLE GAVE ME CLOTHES FOR LIKE 3-6 MONTHS-- I THINK NEWBORN CLOTHES IS A WASTE SINCE THEY GROW SO FAST....MOST NEWBORN CLOTHES I BOUGHT MY SELF---
- My sister had a baby recently and I helped put together her baby registry, I uncluded all sizes! The truth is that most mother's already have tones of new born stuff so we put bigger sized 3-6 months, 9-12 months, ect. Also include bottles, bibs, dippers, Towel, high chair, ect.
- I always buy diapers for a baby shower. Sure, it's not cute, but when it comes down to it, every kid needs them!
- No it didnt happen to me, but when I have went to baby showers I bought newborn or 0-3 months, because our babies grow very fast.
