I need a list of the most important things that I need to ask for at my baby shower.?

And how much should each product cost? I heard somewhere that you should do a $50 limit. But, the baby shower IS 2 weeks before my due date, so should I be a bit more high priced with my gifts??? I.E. asking for cribs, bassinets, learning toys...

  1. Put EVERYTHING on your list. Some people get together and get big gifts. I have some friends who I worked with years ago and they usually get together to buy a more expensive gift.
  2. I would say not to add the crib, too pricey. But I would add higher cost items such as a "pack and play", changing table, high chair, car seats (I asked for 2 $200 ones, and got them both). Lots of people enjoy chipping in on a large gift. I would not put learning toys, etc... on there, people usually buy them for you anyway. Also baby wash, shampoo, etc... People always add these on, I had a whole shelf of baby products, many which I never ended up using (just too much!) and ended up giving them away to friends with babies. Congrats and good luck.
  3. If you are registering some where put everything you want on there. My mom and dad bought the crib for both my sister and me as a baby shower present. I think (at least in my family) that you find brothers and sisters and grandparents to spend the most money. example:My brother bought a car seat for me. My aunt gave me a gift basket with bathing things in it that probably equaled around 50. my 3 sisters all pitched in a bought me a pack in play together as a combined gift. But if you put inexpensive things along with more expensive things on your registery if gives people more of an option of what they want and can buy. I wouldnt expect a crib unless someone has expressed the interest in purchasing it for you (my parents told me they would buy it a couple months before baby and we went to the store together) However dont be surprised if someone buys you a swing or a playpen or something like that.
  4. I would register at a baby store and put everything on there that you want and need. Here are a few major things that I suggest. Car seat Stroller Bouncer Swing Activity Gym Burp cloths zip up sleepers (thats all they need to wear for the first 3 months, easy to zip up) Diapers Wipes Bottles Wash cloths Mobile Since your shower is only 2 weeks before your due date you may have to buy some things yourself. Because you could have your baby before the shower! Congrats to you!
  5. I think it really depends on how big your shower is going to be, as to what you should ask for. If you're having a large shower with more than 20 people, I'd say go ahead and ask for the large items. That way more than one person can chip in and buy one large gift, like the crib or something. I would definately register at more than one place too. When you register at like a Babies R Us they will provide you with a check list of necessities for a new baby. That list helped me a lot because I had no idea what I should ask for either. Necessities: crib, dresser, changing table, bassinet, bouncer, baby einstein (best toy I got from my shower), wipes, diapers, bath time kit, sheets, mattress pad, bathtub, hooded towels, wash cloths, clothes (kinda understood though), bottles, socks, onesies, crib set, mobile,
  6. Don't forget to put diapers and wipes on your list as well! You might want to ask for some size 1 and 2 diapers as babies don't stay in newborn size very long.
  7. yes just put everything down if you need averything. you can never have enuf bibs, blankets, undershirts, sleepers, wash cloths etc. diaper wipes, diapers, bottles, baby moniter, a snugli (the you strap baby in and carry on you), basinet, hanging mobile, baby book, playpen, high chair, soaps, lotions, oil, carseat, thermometer-the ear type is great and quicker, diaper pail, crib bumber pads, crib sheets/blankets, baby room lamp, stroller etc. good luck and congratulations
  8. Put it all on there - no price limit - as people may want to go in together and get something big - however, it's too bad you can't move it up sooner. if you are expecting the big stuff and don't get it - you don't have much time to go out and get it yourself. But - here's what was on my list (I already had a crib) stroller highchair baby monitor breast pump clothes diapers wipes thermometer baby care set (hairbrush, nail clipper, etc) baby tylenol (liquid) bath time stuff (J&J all in one, towels, etc) a baby tub sheets clothes onesies socks blankets burp rags and lots of other stuff! Just wander through the store and scan everything! :)
  9. Register for everything you need. With the big items, a group of friends or family may go in together. Diapers, diapers and more diapers! Bottles, burp clothes, onsies..... Oh, and a bouncy seat-this was the only way I was able to get in the shower during the day. Good Luck!
  10. I put a few things in there (my registry) that were expensive, just so people knew what I was getting, and also cause you get 10% off after you have the baby (at target), so they could give me gift cards so to contribute to it. Well so far, 3 big things were purchased, I dont kow by whom except for the crib. Someone bought me the crib, the stroller/car seat, crib bedding and the play pen. I didn't expect that, I expected more gift certificates than anything. So if I were you I would put EVERYTHING you want and need in there, so they know, that you need these things, so they can either offer you a nice GC, or buy you the item. I"ve never heard of a money limit of the registry, cause if you need it, you need it, right? PS i also put size 1, 2 & 3 diapers, why limit it to newborn, everyone seems to like to buy diapers. Plus I was very open with some friends who asked me questions about what I wanted and needed, I was very honest and told them, that I have enough clothes to last a life time, and pretty much what's on my registry is what I need.
  11. -lots of bottles, (i breastfed and still needed bottles) -a bumbo pr boppy chair, we used this as her feeding chair until she got too big for it - a swing -i didn't get a bassinet, she slept in her crib from day one, its just a waste it doesn't work for too long -you don't NEED a crib set because they say not to use bumpers ever and the baby will just need warm pj's and a blanket to be swaddled in -don't ask for toys or clothes, except for onsies etc that come in packs, it's hard to find stuff like that at the store and people will buy stuff you don't ask for. -get a car- seat stroller system you like (make sure you go to store and try to fold it pick it up, etc) and get a second base for the daddy's car or your parents if they'll be driving a lot with the baby. it's a hassle to move the base. -even if you don't get the crib at the shower you can still register for the mattress, the mattress pad, and crib sheets. -the store you register at will probably have a list you can go off of -do register for things you won't use till baby is older, like a second umbrella stroller or pack and play
  12. I would put everything you need on the registry. Even if some items are more expensive, sometimes people like to get together and buy the more expensive gift as a group. I will warn you, however, that a lot of people will just ignore your registry, especially if you register for a lot of practical things. I registered for bed linens, baby monitor, lots of really practical items, and lots of people gave me fluffy baby blankets (which are pretty much useless) and intricate little outfits (I prefer one-piece baby clothes, so much easier!) People would rather buy things that are cute instead of practical. You can find a sample registry with all of the "bells and whistles" at Babies R Us. I edited the list for you. Two stars (**) means very useful and one star (*) means useful. 13. Most important things are the bigger things..its great when people pitch in..but get a variety..I suggest not registering for clothes as people get those anyway cuz they are cute, but if you don't have enough u can get yourself as they age etc..I also wouldn't register for binkies, as people tend to just toss those in a gift for fun cuz they cheap...same w/ bibs, socks, hats and even little rattles etc. MIght want to register for mitten so baby doesn't scratch, get a health aid kit, w/ thermometer, i suggest against the ear one..doens't read the same ever..... you will really really really want a pack and play if your crib isn't right there. its very hand w/ the diaper changing area etc...a swing is a must, or even just a bouncer if you don't want both. get a swaddler blanket, those are nice. get sheets for crib and pack and play, get a changing pad. register for diapers and wipes! can't have enough of them. you might want a baby bath, but we ended up just doing in sink most of time...but they have 3 dollar foam ones that are great in beginning when you are first sponge bathing. get some washclothes and those hooded towels, just a couple is all u need.dreft washing liquid is nice and stain remover. Might want to put in some sleeper clothing, and the zip up ones they make instead of using a blankie. thats another thing you really don't need to reg for is blankies, people toss them in to. I suggest if you don't really love somehting, don't register for it, espeicaly clothing. you will have a surplus, and it just makes for them to not wear stuff alot, and you'll be sad they only wore somehitng cute one time cuz u lost it buried in closet. you will need a car seat, thats #1 you need. and a base, or even 2 for both cars if u have 2. get a simple stroller and a heavier one. find an outfit to bring baby home in. get a camera digital if u don't have one. babybook/photo album are good to pick out on ur own. pic frames too. don't forget to register for bottles..i like the drop ins. get extra nipples! well thats ur basics..not much else u will use regularly...oh i wouldn't even register for baby bath etc..thats another thing u might get plenty of just cuz.do not use baby powder either..its bad for baby to inhale. congrats, good luck, have fun.
  14. usually if someone is going to buy you something big they usually tell you but the things that you will need most when you have the baby are: diapers, wipes, undershirts, sleepers, recieving blankets, one thing that is really good to ask for is gift certificates so that if you need diapers, shampoos and stuff you can get them, gripewater for gas, bottles, formula if you are using formula but again you wont know exactly which one baby will be able to eat so gift certs. come in handy for this
