What is your opinion of the Richard and Judy book club?
Have you ever been influenced to read any of the books on their book lists after seeing them reviewed on their show? Do the books they have listed appeal to you? Do you think that it's a good or a bad thing that they are so influential when it comes to getting the books the recommend on to the best sellers lists? I suppose in the States, the equivalent would be something like Oprah's Book Club? Here is a list of them: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_52713465_1?ie=UTF8&docId=1000139313&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-sign-in&pf_rd_r=0N488GQSWPB76J94HANJ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=168698791&pf_rd_i=13790191 Kirsty, please don't waste my time with your childish response. smithers - I hated Time Traveller Wife!

- Oprah owns Richard & Judy
- You can rest assured that anything that gets a mention in THEIR book club show is because it means pennies and pounds to them. Just like all the guests you get on talk shows who've always got something to plug, be it a show, a film, a record or a book, invariably money changes hands in the process. I doubt the book club is any different. Chink chink. Oh, sorry about that sudden noise - it was the cash register........
- this is a difficult one as they do stimulate reading which has to be a good thing but it does tend to make the titles fashionable...a few years back every woman i knew was reading Lovely Bones. I tried reading Travellers...total nonesense to me but alot of people liked it. So im split on this Mizza...it is naff in a way but reading is good....you've got me beat honey. xx
- I think it's a good thing in that it has probably encouraged alot of people to read novels when they wouldn't otherwise have bothered, but they tend to focus on fairly 'safe' middle of the road authors. I have read books on their list, and enjoyed them, but there are hundreds more books published every year than the twelve (?) which they plug.
- Think it is a great idea if it gets people reading, the only trouble i have are that none of the books are the kind of fiction I like to read. I suppose they are too high brow, where as I like Conan Doyle, Clancy or Alistair MacLean
- I love reading and I always have at least 2 books on the go. I dont watch Richard and Judy because I am still working usually. However, I buy from Amazon and occasionally have been influenced by the top 5 books, on the whole though I swap books with friends and buy at charity shops. The best book I have read this year "A Thousand Splendid Suns" a brilliant book. x thank you x
- i dont think its necessarily a bad thing if they influence people on which books to read!!i have read a few and on the whole enjoyed them.i dont watch the show though!!
