- Anything by Charles Bukowski or William Burroughs...
- Well I would say you def need the classics. Have all the Austen and Brontes. Def Shakespeare. uh... (I'm trying to look in my room I have about 11 shelves full lol) ... Twain is also good to have. Luoisa May Alcott's Little Women adn The Inheritance are good. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass An American Slave is excellent (its short but very informative and eye opening) I am just thinking of the classics right now. There are so many good authors out there. But I think the ones I've mentioned before is a good place to start.
- I have a shelf on my bookshelf of books I need to read. Right now it's mostly Dracula and Vanity Fair.
- Oh wow...I don't know where to begin!! Poe's short stories The Worst Witch series Anything by Jasper Fforde Seven Little Australians Robin Hobb's Assassin series Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events Jane Eyre Wide Sargasso Sea (only if you liked Jane Eyre) A Little Princess Little Lord Fauntleroy Secret Garden Boy The Lovely Bones Anything by John Marsden Flat Stanley Anything by Enid Blyton The Obernewtyn series The Miller's Tale and the Merchant's Tale from The Canterbury Tales - they're hilarious!! Brave New World - definitely That's all I can think of for now
- I am a very diverse reader and would gladly share the books I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm not sure if you like a particular genre or not. My only advice is that you do not limit yourself. I've read things that have disturbed, and other that have enlightened. I have read things for the laughs and others for the male meets female vibe. It is only with such a broad spectrum, we can properly assess our likes and dislikes--the oddities to the near-real; the far-fetch to the what-the-heck! lol. ENJOY! Btw, I'm 19 as well. 1. "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coehlo * must read 2."The Fifth Mountain" by Paulo Coehlo * about Faith, set in history 3. "Adulthood Rites" by Octavia Butler 4. "Parable of the Sower" by Octavia Butler 5. "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse 10."Breathing Room" by Patricia Elam * Just note that I read this probably at age 13, 14, 15 and am not sure how I would enjoy it now . But at the time, I thought it was a good book. 11. "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley 12. "I Know What the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou 13. "Black Boy" by Richard Wright 14. "The Hobbit" by J.R. Tolkein * I read in 7th grade. I really liked then. 15. "Cry the Beloved Country" by.....my bad. Well, there are more that I have to think of. Just let me know, but I think this is enough for now. Enjoy yourself. I hope you find that time. I would also love to hear what you have in your possession already. I too as a 19 year old am trying to read more--be enlightened.
- If you like classics try titles by Mark Twain, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, Charles Dickens, Charlotte Bronte, DH Lawrence. There are many good contemporary writers, it just depends on what genre you are interested in. Ask a librarian; they usually know what's what.
