  4. those books are the top selling books in the USA
  5. Dont write crappy books and it will end up on the best sellers list. If you aren't on the list there is a high probability that your book blows
  6. Simply write a good book. But nobody's going to know about your book if you don't get out there and advertise.
  7. By being one of the top 15 books sold through distributors to bookstores over a one week period. That is why many books debut at #1. Because stores have ordered very large quantities of them to fill demand. That is why it is very difficult for a first book to start off on the list. Because bookstores won't "go long" ordering large quantities for the debut of the book. It would require a lot of money on the part of the author promoting the book and increasing it's demand for stores to start ordering it in quantities that put it on the NY Times list. To that end, most new authors invest their advances in marketing firms to help them make the list and sell more books. The list really does have a tremendous effect on what people read and it does pay to be on it, but it takes money to make money. On the other hand to be #1 on Amazon, your book needs to be one of the top 10 books sold directly to the public in a 24 hour period. And there are little "tricks" that authors use to do that. Pax-C
  8. Write a load of pretentious crap, and then sleep with the editor, easy.
