How many books do you have to sell to make the New York Times Best Sellers List?

1. As far as I know, you have to just sell more than others in a particular week...Like the top 20 books sold this week or whatnot. Then those books are on the best seller's list for that week.
2. It is by comparison with other sales for the week, but the number usually falls between 40,000 and 50,000 to make the list.
