Book suggestions? preschool to 2nd??

Trying to build a collection of children's books... I've tried searching the internet for lists of good titles, but it's proving overwhelming. Looking for classics and less popular finds... Any suggestions for good fiction and non-fiction books for pre-k to 2nd grade (4 to 8 years old)? Thanks! Thanks everyone!!! I'm adding your suggestions to my list! and NYC---As much as I trust ol' Georgie's judgment, I think I'll pass... ;-)
