What "requisites" must a book have in order to get in the banned books list?

1. Apparently anything that gets The Powerful's panties in a bunch. The link below provides fantastic information about banned books.
2. The religious right/conservatives have to feel threatened. Take that kids book that is about cuba for ex. Or Huck Finn, or anything that mentions sex. That sets the nutjobs off in full force.
3. I guess like anything if it is so offensive, that it would be banned. Like pictures of people who have not given their permission to release their photos or to write something that is a lie. That is called liable. And then if you write a book based on threats against anyone or the government like a planned take over I guess they could come and check you out a little dont you think? But all and all I would ban any book that was boring, ha ha like the life story of Ronald Reagan etc., ha ha

5. There is no definitive criterion to getting one's literature onto the banned or censored books list. It could be anything from someone being offended by words, someone believing it may incite anarchy, or someone believing anything at all. Books are being banned on local levels in schools, libraries, and organizations. Some schools and other organizations attempt to remove books from shelves based on racial slurs, sexual content, incitement against authority, etc. The present standard of how books are banned and censored is derived from the 1973 Supreme Court case : Miller v. California. They use now what is called the SLAPS test. Under this standard a work must be considered offensive by "contemporary community standards". It must lack : Serious, Literary, Political, Social, value. 6. Well, someone has to have tried to get it banned. BTW, while the right is better known for this, anyone can play. Ever heard of people trying to get a book banned for being racist or sexist? Think that was the Religious Right? Sure, they seem to do it the most, but they aren't the only ones in the game.
