Why do christians want to ban the harry potter books when the bible is number one on the banned book list ????
not to mention full of magic references????? who do they think the "magi" were who greeted jesus at his birth? they were magicians from Persia! (Iran now which is REALLY ironic) if magic is ok with jesus then christians should shut up about harry potter.

- Easy. They're jealous that somebody could write better fiction. Why else do you think they burned Iron Maiden albums in the 80s? What I find most sad is that FINALLY, here comes a book series that finally makes reading "cool" again, and they'd rather have kids playing Vice City or something?
- They shouldnt be making a big deal about it.The bible has started more conflicts then Harry Potter Books.Plus Magic is not real.
- I like Harry Potter!
- I want to ban Harry Potter?????? `
- Well they think it's different. It is their holy book and HP is fantasy.
- I STRONGLY oppose the banning of any book and surprisingly, so do most Christians who I associate with. NOTE: I FOUND NO DOCUMENTATION THAT THE BIBLE WAS EVEN IN THE TOP TEN OF BANNED BOOKS IN THE UNITED STATES. I DID NOT CHECK COUNTRIES LIKE CHINA...SORRY. The Ol' Hippie Jesus Freak Grace, Peace and Love in Christ Peg
- I don't want to ban it, I just think that Christians shouldn't be reading that stuff. You don't mind me saying that do you? I am not telling you what to do, just reminding my fellow believers that those activities are works of the enemy and not a friendly children's book.
- I am a Christian and I do not give a flop about Harry Potter, one way or the other. . .I simply do not care.
- Jesus doesn't approve of magic. i don't personally care if they ban the book or not i won't read it anyway nor will my kids so who really cares. harry potter bores me.
- Satan's ACLU are trying to kill the Word, and Harry potter is a doorway into witchcraft and demonic knowledge.
- Though they have the wrong reasons, they are at least supporting a good cause. Harry Potter sucks.
- Magi means wiseman. So, I think they were astrologers, not magicians, per se. Anyway, magic generally suggests communication with the dead (which is mentioned in the Bible as sinful) and a bunch of other bad things that involve superstition (which is the idea that the human can obtain divine powers). Anyway who cares. Harry Potter is a fictional tale. It's fun to read. I'm Christian, I like it. I don't believe magic is real, and I'm not about to go out and try it.
- i find HP an easier read and more believable... and who says that HP isn't real??? have you MET him??? can you PROVE he doesn't exist??? didn't think so...
- wow you're stupid
- I'm not sure which "christians" you're referring to, but clearly not the ones in my family. We're always lined up at the bookstore at midnight. Then we fight over who gets to read it first. :)
- The reason many Christians have a problem with Harry Potter is because it portrays witches in a positive light. The Bible makes it clear that there is no such thing as a good witch and all authority and power given to them comes directly from Satan.
- I think atheists should "shut up" until they learn how to state their question/rants intelligently. What denomination or denominations are you referring to? There is no one single "Christian" denomination. I have not heard the Catholic Church wished to ban these harmless children's books. Or the Episcopalian Church. Or the Lutheran Church. Or the Unitarian Church. Which church has attempted to "ban" them and in what country and in what legal way? Your question makes no sense as written. It's just stupid.
- You should say "some" Christians. This Christian (and most Christians I know), are not interested in banning Harry Potter books, or anything else. I have a long track record of fighting censorship, and will continue to do so.
- I have no issue with Harry Potter, but in searching I found nowhere that said the bible is a banned book never mind the #1...could you please site your source?
- Why have you changed the story around and say its christians ,when its actually one lady?
- The magi came bearing gifts for the savior. If Harry Potter brings a gift and is prepared to eat cake and ice cream, he can come to the party too.
- SOME Christians want to ban the Potter books, but not all Christians, and those who do want the ban are in the minority. The Bible is number one on the Best Seller list for all time; it is not a "banned book" unless, perhaps, you know of some strange cult that has banned it.
- Not ALL Christians want to ban the Harry Potter books. In fact, I would say that most don't want to ban it. Not reading them because they frown upon witchcraft and wanting to ban them are two totally different things.
- its just banned from my household- I want to bring my children up to serve the Lord...I have that right....whatever others do with it is simply their decision, as well!
- Those a "fundamentalists" that are trying to do that.Example Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. They give Christianity a bad name and a bad rep. Not all Christians are fundys.
- Word up. I heart Harry Potter. They feel it should be banned based on its content of witchcraft, etc. Does that mean we get rid of the Chronicles of Narnia (written by a Christian), any book on the Salem witch trials, Lord of the Rings (also written by a Christian....) Stupid.
- Technically, the Magi were followers of ancient texts combined with astrology. Known as Zoroastrians, they were looking for signs in the stars that would reveal Messiah. But your original question? Christians would seek to ban Harry Potter books because they expose the youngest and most vulnerable of our society to the dark side of the spirit realm. THAT is the side that exalts itself against God.
- I don't want to ban harry potter, even though i am a christian,, i wake up every morning with my misses who got hair like Hagrid every morning..lol
- Everywhere you go, you are going to run into someone with an agenda. That's just a sad fact of life. The people who want to ban Harry Potter just want to be noticed, they publicize their distaste as a way to draw attention to themselves and further their agenda. Most of us don't care, and most of us probably like Harry Potter. Ignore them and their agenda will die, and they'll stop talking.
- Well im a Christian and i dont want HP banned, i think its brilliant! Seriously they say Christians generalise and judge? And IF the 3 kings were magicians who says God cant work through them? Numerous times in the old testament God used enemies of Israel to show the Israelites what to do and how they had gone wrong. God Bless
- J.K. Rowling doesn't believe in God.
- because its dealing with witchcraft and stuff. the bible is the book all should read. harry potter to me is just fantasy and made up.
- They are insecure. They think that Christianity is so weak that their kids will become Satan worshippers as soon as they read Harry Potter.
