To be considered well read what books would top the list in high society?

  3. It's not about the books you read, but about what you learn from them. Go to your local library and get some books on every subject you can find. Read and learn about everything you read.   4. It's subjective. Even in high society has different type of people. I would think if you pay more attention to what's going on in the world, and read whatever types of books you like. I love to read, comic books, romance, history, or something to do with philosophy. I make sure that I read newspaper everyday. Since I am an accountant, and I read alot magazines relate to global economy or finance. Although I dont usually go by what require in high society, I always consider myself well-read person. Why force yourself to read something that you might not interest.

Remember though, many of those in high society today are ignoramuses. Many will not have read much at all. It isn't the good old days any longer. I read important works for my own edification.
