CENSORSHIP: Where do I find a list of books which are (at the moment) banned in the United States?
I´m preparing a presentation about book banning (censorship) in the USA ( we are reading "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury) and I just can´t find a list of books which aren´t only challenged but banned everywhere in the States today. Please help me!!!

- Try taking a list of the books in any radical muslim book store, the majority of those will probably be banned.
- The American Library Association website should be able to help you out. Good Luck. http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/bannedbooksweek.htm
- Ask your local librarian

- There is no "list" of banned books. The United States Federal government does not ban books. Local governments can choose which books they want to keep in public libraries, and are free to choose Not to purchase certain books. In some cases, they might purchase the book, but keep it "behind the counter" in order to keep small kids from encountering adult content. This is how democracy works. If a person or group has a problem with a book, be it "Heather has Two Mommies" or "American Psycho", they are allowed to express those concerns. If enough of their neighbors agree with them, then thay may choose not to fund their local library's purchase of it. The Library of Congress may also decline to purchase a book, if it is deemed obscene, or has no redeeming artistic value, then why waste limited space and money, and by purchasing it implicitly approve of it?
- The United States doesn't ban books. The such/similar material that is illegal in the US is child pornography, for obvious reasons.
- As others have said, the United States does not ban books throughout the whole country. However, towns do ban books on their own of course. Check here for a list of books that have been banned in towns in the U.S.: http://www.ala.org/ala/oif/bannedbooksweek/challengedbanned/challengedbanned.htm http://www.deletecensorship.org/books.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_banned_books
- When my kids were in school I simply asked my local librarian. As a result my kids read: "Catcher in the Rye", "Johnny got his Gun", "Huck Finn", and a dozen or so others much to the consternation of their school principals and the delight of their more open minded teachers. It is good to read banned books!!!! They are usually banned because govn'ts find the ideas espoused in such books to be frightening as they force the reader to THINK---and we all know that govn't is the opposite of populace thought. (they like us as mindless sheep)
