Which computer book lists the main uses of all the top keys, from F1 to F12?

I saw it once a few years ago on the inside part of the cover. I can't remember it.

  1. The computer book that came with the computer you bought should say what the F1 - F12 mean.
  2. 3. I agree with the above answer but you could always use the "help" file on your computer. Good luck
  4. These top keys are called Function Keys. If the below information does not help, try doing more searches under function keys. You can visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Function_key for more information. They list "1. ^ Ignite-UX Administration Guide: for HP-UX 11.00 and 11i, Appendix D (Terminal Keyboard Shortcuts), Advanced Keyboard Navigation." as a reference.
  5. Other than when you are booting up and trying to get into the bios set up the Function keys are software defined for each program. So for most Microsoft word processors F7 is a shortcut to spell check. I work on mainframes and when I am in the mainframe terminal emulator the Function keys have the same functions that a 3270 terminal would have. So the only time that the function keys have a fixed meaning is when booting and that depends on the brand of computer as each uses them differently.
