Can I get into a good business school from a top 50 university?

OK im a high school senior worried about his future. I didnt quite make it into a top 25 university (UCLA, Cal), but I still got accepted into a top 50. My question is..when you're applying to a top business school, how much will they take into account of the undergrad school you attend?

  1. Not as much as you may think. Basically the better programs require work experience. It will be based not only on your marks, the rigor of the courses at the school you attended but also on your job performance. And of course the GMAT. Thanks Bill
  2. If you have the high grades, test scores and other elements of a well-rounded undergraduate education, getting into a top business school is not going to be difficult if you are attending a top 50 undergrad school. In fact, it might be somewhat easier - as admissions often try to diversify their classes by bringing in students from varied backgrounds and different schools. If you are in a Pac 10 level school, it should not be that difficult to get in. And it might be more simple. My alma mater, Illinois, screwed over the class of 1990 by the law school's one year decision to diversify the law school population by not admitting any undergrad alumni from UIUC that fall. It was easier to get into Illinois from SIU, EIU, WIU, or ISU - and presumably the UIUC students were all better students on paper coming out of high school. And UIUC now has difficulty understanding why the Political Science Class of 1990 is the worst class for donating back to the university??? A 4.0 from a top 50 university will get you into a good business school. Harvard, Yale, Cal and Stanford should all still be options.
  3. A top 50 university is great. You will need work experience and good test score, you will be able to get into a good business school! Good luck and enjoy the next 4 years!
