Is it possible for a student to get accepted into top b-school after going to average college for undergrad?

For example, when students finish high school, they may not be great enough at all subjects to get into Harvard. However, after going to an average college, and they excell in business classes because that is what they are good at, then they can get into a top business school or not?

  1. Absolutely. (It's usually much cheaper to go to an avg. undergrad school, too.) I did this with law school.
  2. Yup. Grad schools usually publish a long list of all the undergrads their students came from. Many are going to be "average" undergrads. The only thing you'll have to realize is you may be the only one from your undergrad at that prestigious b-school, while there may be several from the Stanfords and Harvards of the world. But, as long as you get in, I guess it doesn't matter too much.
  3. Usually yes, depends on the talent you demonstrated during your pregrad years. At least that is how it works in physics, we value true talent since it is scarce. May be different in law or business.
