How do I add someone to my online list so I can chat with them using Yahoo mail?

I have been trying to add someone to my list for two days and everything that I have tried has not worked.

1. Click on contacts, you might have to click underneath where it says contacts online. When you click in the right place the add contact form should pop up on the right side, and then you can add their information on there and save it.
