Casting calls in New York?

I would like to get into Acting/Broadway/Music business. Where can I find casting calls? I looked online and some sites have the events and dates they all require me to become a member and pay a fee in order to get an address and sign up for these casting calls. I know there has to be a way to get this info without paying someone just to put your name on a list. Can someone help???

  1. For theatrical open calls, you should check out http://www.playbill.com first. (On the lower left corner of the website, you will see Casting/Jobs) A lot of the Equity Open Calls will note if Equity Rules are enforced or not. If the rules are not enforced and no Equity monitor will be present - then Non-Union talents can sign up and attend the open call. But will have to wait until ALL equity talents have already gone and auditioned. You can also check out http://www.manyd.com - it's a free service for you to sign up, create your own online resume, upload your headshot and submit to available casting notices. A lot of them are Indie/Student films. If you are currently in an Acting School/Studio, you might want to check out the school's bullertin board. Often, you will see postings for auditions. (HB Studio's bullertin boads is always filled with job notices) For the Pay services that are LEGIT and used by the industry are as followed: http://www.actorsaccess.com This is a service provided by Breakdown Services, which is how Casting Directors send their character breakdowns for Agent submission. Now all submissions are made available to the public, but at least you will be able to view some. If's free to sign up, create your online resume, headshot and indicate your representation. It does cost $2.00 per self-submission (or $68 1- year unlimited submission). I thin ALL actors should at least have an account there. You are not required to self-submit if you don't want to. Http://www.NYCASTINGS.Com is also a paid service - very similiar to ActorsAccess, but it has business directories, links go schools, and tons of backgrond jobs. Another resource, is to buy the Backstage paper (that comes out every Thursday) at your local newsstand. It's about $3.00. BackStage.Com is the online version it. Good Luck!!
