why is Big L seldomly listed as a top 5 or 10 rapper?

personally i would rank him in the top 5 amongst pac and biggie, his rhyme schemes are complex, his wordplay is funny, i just dont understand why most people dont think hes a top 5 or 10 rapper

5. ^^^ Never listened to L before. Big L is one of the best he is in my top 5, people dont think of him as a top 5 or 10 becuase he died before he got in his prime I dont think his first albums werent the best he could do allthough they were great. Alot of people just dont know him...

7. Big L was nice and one of the most underrated rappers ever. He's seldomly listed because he isn't as well known as others that are usually on the list. Some Big L fans think he's the best, others think he's nice but not top 10...me included. But for the most part, he's not mentioned up there because he was just not as well known as say, Biggie, or Rakim from back in the day. Other than that some just don't think he's top 10, but the boy had skills.
8. The reason Big L isn't typically ranked among the top 10 rappers is because there's too much talent ahead of him. Those that fall back on BIG and Pac as the GOATs really don't know Hip-hop. Artists better than Big L in no particular order except number 1-4 1)KRS-One Rakim Kool G. Rap Big Daddy Kane(THE GOAT is widely disputed) 5)The GZA 6)Killah Priest 7)RA the Ruggedman 8)Method Man 9)The Holocaust 10)Biggie 11)Del tha Funkee Homosapien 12)the Grouch 13)Nas as you can see Big L is already disposessed of his top 10 title.
9. no classic material. plain and simple. His flow was nice, but 95% of his work was punchlines. Only heard like one song from him where he actually involves a story in his lyrics. His two albums were OK, but not classics IMO. He did have hit singles though, but not enough to make the albums great. I see where you're coming from by saying he's among Pac and Biggie, but L had little versatility. Like I said, his material was mostly based off punchlines and I never really heard a song from him where he stayed on topic. Compare that to songs by Nas or Rakim or 2Pac. That's why I don't consider him Top 10. and his rhymes schemes weren't really complex. I think you just really like his punchlines, which were great. I will say he's probably got the best punchlines ever. But hey, to each his own.
