ipod - does downloading the latest software wipe all your songs that you already had?

my friend lost all her 300 songs! All she did was download the latest upgrade like it said to do when she plugged it in to the computer to recharge . . . Do you think they are still there somewhere?

  1. Well I don't know why that happened, but no, if you upgrade to the new software for your iPod, your songs and data will not disappear. To prevent an incident like your friends happening to you, I would suggest you burn your music to a black CD so that you have a back-up of your music. Have a great New Year! :D
  2. ive never had it happen to me, and i always upgrade. and if it does then i will be really annoyed because im no way putting in all mine and my friends cds again. i had to do it when i got my new laptop and that really annoyed me..
  3. Did she loose all her songs from her pc or her iPod. If it is on her iPod then just simply re-sync it with her PC. If she lost her iTunes songs, try looking in the recycling bin, her music folder or some other place on her hardrive for the songs. So the answer to your question is no, you do not loose your songs when you upgrade.
  4. Nope:) I Should know im always getting the latest ITunes If she plugged it into a different computer then she will loose the songs but if she plugged it in the same computer that she added the songs too it is because she probably went on a website and downloaded the latest software don't go on to google and type in the latest Itunes. So when you first start Itunes it should say would you like to download the latest version or whatever hoped this helped
  5. she may have inadvertently "synced" after upgrading the software. in which case hopefully it's still on the iPod. good luck! in future she can choose to "manually manage music", which allows you to pick and choose what gets moved between computer and iPod. that's the best option if the music library on the computer and contents of the iPod are not identical. i used to do that but it became a hassle so i have everything on both computer and iPod and will become a mega-user of extra hard drive capacity and backup discs. there is no escape :)
  6. Hi, I've just asked my daughter your question and this is her reply to you. She's 14 and knows more about gadgets than me lol. If your friend has her songs saved on to her computer it will be in the music files in her documents. However if the files haven't been saved on to the computer then she's lost them. to stop this from happening next time she upgrades the itunes software she will need to make sure all of her songs are saved in a file in her documents , upgrade the itunes and then add the songs that are saved onto the computer to the itunes. she needs to also make sure she has all the boxes ticked every time she downloads songs to her ipod as they will only download the new ones and take the old ones off.
