New York Times Bestseller list ?

Why does it seem that every single book is on the New York Times Bestseller list? Nearly every book I own has that printed somewhere in or on it. Tell me why, if every book seems to be listed, is this so prestigious that it has to be printed in/on the book and name some books NOT on the list.

  1. Marketing. Marketing has a lot to do with why the "New York Times Best Seller" line is printed on the jackets of books. People are more likely to buy a book because of that claim. If everyone else is buying it, it must be worth you buying. Many people tend to use the list as a guide on what to buy. The list tries to reflect what consumers are buying by analyzing sales figures from bookstores. Not every book is listed on the New York Times Best Seller list. There are thousands of books published each year and only a very small percentage of those actually make it on to the list. All you need to do is browse through the aisles of books at your local bookstore to see for yourself. Also, some books only claim a "New York Times Bestselling Author."
