What are some of the greatest novels in all of history?

I'm looking for thought-provoking, emotion-evoking literary material here. For an example, novels or plays that show up on Time Magazine's 100 Greatest Novels list or Oprah's Book Club. NOT TWILIGHT.

  1. I think that they are Jane Eyre, Persuasion, and Wuthering Heights, to list a few. I also enoy Romeo and Juliet (even though the characters drive me crazy), Pride and Prejudice, and Anne of Green Gables.
  2. Animal Farm - George Orwell Lord of the Flies - William Golding Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury
  3. The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky. It is a long read, but brilliant. It's my favorite book, but Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky is also great. To stick with the Russians, I suggest Tolstoy's Anna Karenina (which, surprisingly, is not just all about Anna Karenina -- Levin is a fabulous character) and Nabokov's Lolita (crazy pedophile narrator, but the book is far more deep than typical descriptions of it suggest). They both get you thinking. I also love F. Scott Fitzgerald, but skip The Great Gatsby and try The Beautiful or the Damned and Tender is the Night. Good luck and have fun!
  4. i suggest all books by Jane Austen definitely what you're asking for [thought-provoking and emotion-evoking some books she's written are Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, and Persuasion there was a movie called the Jane Austen Book club i liked it i'm planning on reading the books ..
