Where can I get lists of people willing to receive e-mail relative to a website?
I have a website devoted to my writings and travels, and I would like to boost my visitedness. When I search online for e-mail lists, or when I join a group like MySpace, what I get is an offer to send e-mail to recipients already on a list that I provide. That does me no good whatsoever. What I am trying to do is make new people aware of my website, not send more e-mail to people I already have. When you promote a book, you want to get it to the public, not just show it to your relatives and friends. Same idea. I'd be willing to pay for lists of course. That's no answer! That's the question! No, I wasn't talking about spam, I thought I clarified. But doing it your way is one at a time. Go to MySpace and start contacting people one by one. That's nowhere, when you consider that the bounce rate on a website is 75% or so How many decades would I have to spend to build a list at that rate? Wummer, I tried Google AdSense. Results were practically zero. Then i checked out the Yahoo Ad. It would cost up to 50 cents a click for small volume, but even for large volume, like $3000 a month, you're still paying 25 cents a click. I'm willing to spend some money, but that's too much.

- setup your own email list. give the readers an option to subscribe to your email
- Basically you want to spam people and sites, and that's frowned on. You could exchange banners with other sites (or even have other sites post links to your sign-up code), but please don't spam. (When you promote a book you're promoting it to people who read book reviews, people who go to book signings and people who listen to book shows - you;re not doing a mass junk-mailing to everyone.) If you want to buy email lists, search for companies selling email lists - but you should be aware that the major part of those lists is dead addresses and addresses NOT provided by the holders (like addresses spidered off contact lines on the web or signatures on Usenet). Mailing to these lists is considered spamming. Good lists aren't usually sold. For example, Knopf or Borders wouldn't sell their "best customer" lists.
- That is called spam mail, and no one will respect you for it. You can always try to advertise through google ads, it sounds like you are willing to spend some money, so spend money the proper way. And it does not need to cost you an arm and a leg, go to http://www.google.com/intl/en/ads/
